    Extremely dependable
Not a lot of bells and whistles on this monitor, and as far as I’m concerned, that’s fine. I just want the thing to work, and this monitor works fast, reliably, every time. Set-up is a cinch. Not once in two years have I had to examine its buttons and connections to try to figure out why it wasn’t coming online. You plug it in, and it works. Every. Time. It’s got a truer color display than the laptop I connect it to half the time, very good resolution. And it’s lightweight, very slim and easy to pack when you’re working on the road.

    Light, excellent screen
So clear and easy to read. My eyes are getting older and the new laptop I was issued has a smaller screen. I didn’t even realize I was struggling to read everything until I got this as a 2nd screen. So. Much. Better. I have used Viewsconic for years and I tried portable screens about 3 years back and was disappointed. So glad I got this one. It’s really making my life easier.

Compact, Reliable, and Portable Monitors for Travel and Daily Use
I own three of these monitors—two for myself and one for my wife—and we’ve been using them for over two years now. We originally bought them for travel, and they’ve proven to be an excellent choice for working on the go. Here’s a breakdown of what I like (and what could be better) about these monitors:Portability & PowerOne of the best features is how compact these monitors are. They are super lightweight and portable, making them perfect for travel. They connect directly to the USB-C port of your laptop, meaning no additional power adapters are needed—provided your computer can supply enough power. On my MacBook, I did notice that I have to keep the brightness at a lower level to run it off USB-C, but there is a power cable included if your device can’t supply enough power. It’s nice to have that flexibility.Image QualityAs for the image quality, this is a standard 1080p monitor, which is perfectly fine for everyday work, browsing, or even watching videos. It’s not going to blow you away with vivid colors or high-end graphics, but it’s solid for general productivity. The built-in speakers are also functional, though don’t expect amazing sound quality. They work in a pinch, but I tend to use external speakers for a better audio experience.Design & BuildThe built-in kickstand is a nice touch. It lets you adjust the monitor’s angle, but I personally prefer using a separate fold-up stand to lift the monitors a bit higher for a more ergonomic setup. It’s not a big deal, just a personal preference.Durability & ReliabilityAfter two years of daily use, I haven’t had any major issues with the monitors. I recently bought a second one to match my setup, and while it arrived with a line of dead pixels, the return process was hassle-free, and the replacement monitor works perfectly. I was impressed with the quick and easy customer service.ConclusionOverall, I would definitely recommend these monitors. They fit my office setup perfectly and are incredibly convenient for travel. The flexibility of having them plug straight into my laptop without needing an extra power supply makes them a great addition to my mobile workspace. I’ll continue to use them for the foreseeable future and would not hesitate to buy more if I need them.

My in-depth review with iPad Pro and MacBook Pro and Bluetooth speaker
I bought the ViewSonic VA1655 last week and received it a few days ago. Here is an early review after connecting it to my stuff.Sharpness:The display is full HD, so it looks fairly sharp. It won’t be as sharp as the retina displays of my 14-inch MacBook Pro M! or my 11-inch iPad Pro M2. But I think trying to retina on this portable monitor would be overkill.Brightness:At work, I use a Chromebook that is rated 220 nits. Its display is bright enough, even in the cubical/office space where many big windows expose lots of sunlight. Since the Viwwsonic VA1655 is rated 250 nits, I expected it would be bright enough. It is. I would not expect to be able to use it if I had a huge beam of direct sunlight on the screen, but frankly, I think I’d have some trouble using my iPad or MacBook that way.Colors:I connected the Viewsonic to my MacBook Pro M1, duplicated a photo, and displayed it on the Viewsonic and the MacBook. I did not see a difference. Granted, I am not a photographer, and I am a little colorblind. But I read reviews claiming the colors on the Viewsonic looked washed out, and I did see that. But those with higher standards than mine might want to put in the proper research, since I have read that the Viewsonic color gamut is not real high. Your milage may vary.Gaming:I do not play video games, so I cannot judge how well the Viewsonic handles that. I rated gaming at 3 stars to try to be neutral. And I know that not paying video games might damage my geek cred. I still read comic books.MacBook Pro:The USB-C cable connects to my MacBook Pro and the display and the display instantly shows up. It looks decent side-by-side. Not bad!iPad Pro:The USB-C connection works fine, although I had to find the right Settings and turn on Stage Manager to make the Viewsonic show as an external display without mirroring. I use a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The mouse is needed to navigate the Viewsonic display (I doubt that a touchscreen portable monitor would have touchscreen functionality with the iPad). But it does drain the iPad battery faster. I can plug power into the extra USB-C port on the monitor to charge the iPad, that works fine.iPad Pro and USB hub:I have a USB hub that I use to plug stuff into my iPad (like flash drives and external hard drives or SD drives). When I connected the hub to the iPad Pro, and then connected the USB-C data port on the hub to the Viewsonic, it did not carry a video signal. So I connect the Viewsonic display to the USB hub like this:1. Bluetooth-connect my external keyboard and mouse to the iPad.2. To power the Viewsonic, connect a USB-A-to-USB-C cable to a USB 3.0 port on the hub, then to the USB-C port on the Viewsonic.3. To carry the video signal, connect the Viewsonic HDMI cable to the hub, and then to the Viewsonic mini HDMI port.4. Optional: Plug power into the USB-C PD (power delivery) port on the hub to supply power to the iPad.5. Connect the hub to the iPad USB-C port. From this experience, my advice is if you buy a portable monitor, buy one with an HDMI port, two USB-C ports, and an audio port. I have used them on my Viewsonic VA1655. (Except the audio port, but I am sure it works.)Audio:The speakers sound tinny, but I did not expect good sound from them anyhow. When I connect the Viewsonic to my MacBook Pro, I select the MacBook Pro speakers for better sound. When I plug the Viewsonic into the iPad, the iPad audio automatically switches to the Viewsonic speakers with no option to switch back to the iPad speakers. (I believe this would happen with any portable monitor.) If I want better sound, I can connect to one of my Bluetooth speakers and switch to it. Or I could plug a speaker or headphones into the Viewsonic audio port. The little kickstand:Some reviews comment that the kickstand can break easily. I take that into account when I pull the kickstand out, I open it with care. I get my fingers in underneath, close to the hinge, to avoid stress on that hinge. The kickstand works well, the little rubber feet grip smooth surfaces well (in landscape orientation). The Viewsonic is steady enough on a flat surface in landscape orientation, but portrait is kinda tippy (I am unlikely to use portrait anyhow).Weight and Sturdiness:The Viewsonic VA1655 display is lightweight, which feels nice. It makes my old 22-inch display (lower resolution, so iPad would only allow mirrored display) feel like a boat anchor (I will donate it somewhere). The Viewsonic does feel plasticy, because it is made of plastic. No metal frame to sturdy it up. However, It does not feel flimsy. I keep it in the included pouch when not in use.iPad as a MacBook:The Viewsonic monitor and the USB hub will let me use the iPad more like a MacBook, which I am likely to do if I have to take my MacBook Pro into the shop. I can plug other devices into the hub, like a USB flash drive or an external hard drive or SD drive, but I have read that it is best to not plug too much into the hub at once. I have read that can overwork the iPad USB-C port and give the iPad a heart attack.Price:I bought the Viewsonic VA1655 for about about $100 (normally $140), so it was a very good deal. I am happy with it.

Please let this last, please don’t die.
This monitor has surpassed my expectations in the early days of ownership. I highly recommend it. Purchased at the end of January, 2025. If it breaks due to manufacturing issues, I’ll be back. However, I’ve had many viewsonics in the past and they are blowing anyone away, but they’ve been workhorses, so I was happy to try it.I really appreciate the extra width.I plugged directly usbc to usbc and 0 issues. I do keep my laptop plugged in when using, but not necessary.I can see myself getting another, and splitting the usbc… However, it looks like I may be able to chain two together and won’t need a splitter… hmmm…Doing good… so far…

For my purpose, I needed a mobile monitor for when I am working away from my home office. In this day and age of remote work, I have three monitors in my home office. I am going away to visit my dad in another province, taking my work with me when I visit. To think to work with just my laptop monitor is just unbearable. Background:I have been using an older mobile monitor, Lenovo ThinkVision, that is over 10 years old. It has only 1600 x 900 resolution, 200nits, 500:1 contrast ratio, Grollia Glass, and a thick 1″ bezel. It has been a great monitor. But will not work with my corporate laptop. The ViewSonic feedbackFor me, the PROs on this monitor are:1. it’s smaller bezel design – more viewable screen is always appreciated2. the higher resolution FHD 1080p – easier on the eyes3. weight of 1.5 pounds – less weight to pack around is always better4. HDMI and usb-c interface – will work with modern laptopsCONs on this monitor are:1. Contrast/brightness – set to 100%, is still not as sharp as my older Lenovo portable monitor. But this is a minor point, because I don’t stare at my monitor continuously. I may look at a spreadsheet or read a word document for an average of 1/2 hour. I am always looking from one monitor to the next. So, sharpness is not a big deal and it’s sharp enough for my use. I mention it here only because it may a bigger deal for you than I. I just happen to notice it’s not the sharpest monitor around.2. Power draw from main computer. Now, this would be an issue with all portable monitors without builtin batteries. Monitors with a higher price point do have builtin power. For the price of this monitor, it has none. I struggle with this item…without any external power source, this monitor and my laptop would last less than 2 hours, rendering me a limited work time. It’s something to think about if working without access to power, in which case I would most likely not use it in that situation. What I would not use this monitor for:* Watching youtube, netflex, streaming media. The main monitor on my laptop is far superior to this monitor and I would use that for watching streaming media.Overall, I am happy with the purchase. For the intended purpose of a productivity work monitor, I don’t think you can go wrong with this ViewSonic. No frills and I expect it to be a champ in my workspace for many years to come. It looks to be a competitive marketplace for portable monitors. There are monitors cheaper than this for the same specifications. I picked ViewSonic because of my experience with their product line in the past. There is a long history of them bringing great monitors to the market at a great price….in other word, they have a reputation. The cheaper monitors manufactures, I have never heard of and sometimes it makes me wonder if it’s worth risking going with what might be less quality with an unknown, then paying a few dollars more for a ViewSonic. For me, saving a few dollars and risking lower quality product is just not worth the Hassel.

Me gusto por ser un monitor portatil, de una marca conocida y me da confianza, me sirve muy bien para el trabajo ya que es muy ligero y con un solo cable se conecta a una laptop, tiene muy buena resolucionMuy buen producto

  8. PD-STAR

Best for documents. Good colors, brightness and portability. Will have to get hard case for better protection during travel.
