Great value and great battery life
I’m a big fan of TicWatch and their other products. I also have their first generation TicWatch E. It’s still in perfectly working condition. They offer an excellent product for the value. I got the TicWatch GTH because I wanted a simple fitness tracker and something with a lower profile. The good thing about the TicWatch GTH is that you still get the notification with all the other perks of a fitness tracker. I seem to get notifications faster on this watch than my TicWatch E, but it’s probably due to the the TicWatch E is a lot older. What I love about it is the low profile and how comfortable it is to wear. The profile of the GTH is about half the profile of my TicWatch E. I wear it at night to sleep. I was really excited to see how well I sleep at night. You can see how many times you are woken up at night on the watch screen as well as on the Mobvoi app. I wish I could see the exact time I was woken up, but you can’t have your cake at eat it too.The heart rate monitor is perfect for when I’m doing my workouts. The O2 monitor is great (especially during this pandemic). It’s pretty accurate. I compared it to my pulse oximeter that I use for work (I’m a nurse). Step tracker is good, seems a bit slow to update or sync on the app. No biggie for me though. The battery life is great on this watch! I received it on 4/15 and charged it right when I received it. Started using it the next morning. I didn’t charge it again until 4/25. I think the battery probably could have lasted another day, but I wanted to charge it for the week ahead. The screen is crisp and easy to read. I love the watch faces. They do take a bit more time to load compared to my TicWatch E, but it’s not a big deal. I just love all the cute options! All in all, a good option for the price.

Solid hardware but software needs a bit of work. Overall it’s good for the price.
I’m coming from the original Ticwatch E, an Android Wear (now Wear OS) smartwatch, so much of my review will be based on my experience with that. It’s honestly surprising what they fit in here for the price. Heart rate sensor, blood oxygen saturation, skin temperature, sleep tracking, and a pedometer are all included. The E had just the HR and pedometer for twice the price (but of course, you also got Wear OS and its superior notification system; more on that later).I’m not some sort of fitness freak, but I’ve found the tracking to be pretty solid. I’m pretty fond of the step counter on this watch versus Wear OS watches. I don’t get all sorts of steps when I am stationary but moving my arms around. I remember getting something like 250 steps on that watch while I was practicing organ for half an hour. Nothing like that with this watch. However, the calorie counter is a bit suspect and perhaps a bit low. I’m also not 100% sure how useful the sleep tracking is because it never reports me having REM sleep—do I really sleep that badly, or is it just the watch? When I actually get to sleep or wake up, how many times I wake up, etc. seems to be pretty accurate. For HR and SpO2 measurements, you obviously need a snug fit to your wrist to get accurate results. It can get pretty out of whack otherwise. The fit and finish of the device is really solid, and it’s clear they’ve really improved their hardware game. It’s comfortable to wear, and I don’t feel like it’s going to break if it gets banged on something (which I’m prone to doing). But anyone who The bezels are a bit larger than many smartwatches (who cares, really), and it’s an LCD, not OLED (so no always-on display), but the display looks good, and it’s visible in sunlight if you have a watchface with enough contrast (which, thankfully, is most of them). The device is pretty zealous about turning off the display; in fact, the most you can have it set to is 15 seconds before it turns off. That’s okay though. The tilt to wake feature has been pretty reliable for me, so it hasn’t been an issue (though for some reason, tilt to wake is disabled in do not disturb mode). The processor is one of the places where they really did not put in any more than was necessary. It runs their custom RTOS just fine while sipping power. This is the thing that’s going to be on the most, so power efficiency is key here. I’m willing to let slide the somewhat choppy scrolling (though at least the framerate is consistent and doesn’t hitch like the E did). Hopefully my 60 fps video came through and can show what the performance looks like. The claim of about a week of battery life holds up in my testing. The E only got about a day’s worth of battery life, and I’d often have to charge the thing at about 8 or 9 PM. Not so with this watch. I can easily wear it to bed and have it last a full week. My only complaint here is how the watch reports battery life. It only reports it as a 4-segment bar graph, so if my watch is below 25%, I have no clue how much time I have left before it dies. It’s a little frustrating, but not a dealbreaker. Now onto the software. It’s surprisingly good for only their second device with their custom RTOS. It’s pretty intuitive and easy to pick up for someone coming from Wear OS. I definitely miss the notification system on Wear OS, with being able to get notifications from all apps, and even being able to reply to messages directly on the watch. On the GTH, it’s a bit different. Only a selection of messaging apps are available for this watch even though the Mobvoi app is granted access to all notifications. That’s fine, because that’s the majority of notifications I get anyway, and those are the ones I tend to care about more. However, it can get pretty frustrating scrolling all the way down to the clear all button at the bottom. It doesn’t scroll any faster when you swipe faster. Again, not a dealbreaker, but a small annoyance than can be fixed with a software update. The watchfaces provided in the app are quite stylish. They put quite a bit of thought into them, and the options are plenty. I honestly don’t miss not having third party watchface support. Most of the ones on the Play Store were kinda crappy anyway. There were a few gems, but most were pretty slow and/or drained your battery quickly. My two complaints with the watchface system are that 1) the customization options on the customizable watchface are limited (you can’t control what info is shown; you can only change text color and background image), and 2) uploading the watchface to your watch over Bluetooth takes FOREVER. They’ve told me they’re already working on optimizations for that last point. I’m hopeful that they can follow through. But with all these little quibbles that I have with this device’s software, you know why I’m sticking with it? It does what the company advertises, and it does it RELIABLY. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to connect my Ticwatch E to my phone to no avail, rebooting both the phone and the watch, doing all sorts of trickery, only to still fail to connect. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had the Google Assistant straight up not work versus the times where it actually did work—it didn’t most of the time. I can’t tell you how many times it’s frozen up, even though the animations are pretty fluid most of the time. Not to mention the low quality of third party apps—so you’d might as well just not bother—and the fact that Wear OS is such a resource hog.All that said, I’m going to be sticking with this watch, and my Ticwatch E is staying in a drawer. Why? Because it Just Works™. It doesn’t try to be anything more than it advertises. And what it does advertise, it executes. It just needs a little more polish on the software side. I’ve gotten a couple of firmware updates to the device since I got it (one right when I unboxed it, the other later on), and I’m hopeful that they can continue to provide improvements and bugfixes.Overall, I’d recommend it for someone who wants a reasonably priced fitness tracker with some customization and messages from your phone. If you’re expecting more out of it, you’re frankly going to be paying a lot more for a good experience, especially in Wear OS watches.

Features lacking but not bad for the price – Device failed
Update: After using the device for about two month, the device failed critically. Bright yellow spots appeared on the screen and the device got dangerously hot. Upon further inspection, it also looks like part of the sensor on the back is melted. I have no idea what caused this, but I no longer feel safe using this device. As far as the warranty process goes, Mobvoi has been slow to respond. They have also stated that they will not be providing a replacement to me.Overall, I’m fairly unimpressed with this watch. The notifications are spotty, lacking app support, fails to notify of MMS, and email alerts are rather useless. The weather function doesn’t work and there is no way to remove the weather info from the device display. Watch faces are lacking customization amd there are very limited choices.Fitness wise, I’m pretty satisfied with it. Seems fairly accurate and consistent. It likes to try to be helpful when I’m walking (apparently I walk fast) by starting an exercise session. Sleep tracking is not bad. Heart monitor seems a little finicky and unfortunately only reports in rather large time chunks (hour long blocks?) instead of a finer minute by minute report.Overall, it’s passable for the price. I probably would not buy a second if this one dies. But am in no hurry to replace it.
