The ZV-E1 is Sony’s first vlog camera with a Full-frame 12.1 MP1 Exmor R image sensor that is optimized for 4K and delivers 15+ stops of latitude, low noise, high sensitivity, and gorgeous full-frame bokeh. This is a great camera. Its smalll enough to take anywhere and works fantastic. If you are looking to make content and want something more elevated than an iPhone this thing is it!

Was unsure at first, but really loving this camera.
Was hesitant because of all the overheating talk. But it’s definitely a keeper for me. I already own an a7s 3 and FX3 so I’m familiar with the sensor. I’m not using this as a vlog camera, instead I wanted the same quality in a smaller form factor for travel and lighter run and gun setup.The AI is a plus but marginally better than what we already had in terms of autofocus. I’ve had pretty great results with the older object tracking already. Dynamic active stabilization was pretty clutch a few times when tracking forward/back. Less reliable for horizontal/pan type movements.Overheating, I used it over the weekend in 80 degree weather in a real shoot from 12pm till 4pm, mostly 4k 24p and sprinkled in some 4k 60p and did not encounter any overheating the way I would normally use it.I was able to get it to overheat in 4k 60p in a controlled setting, recording around 30 minutes. I also updated to 4k 120p and that overheated around 15 minutes. Again doesn’t bother me for my use case. I also tested in 4k 24p and the battery drained before overheating, so I could use this as a 3rd camera long format recordings like a podcast.The built-in mic is convenient, but not that great, however if you know how to post process audio you can get pretty good results.Only thing I wish it had was an evf, even if it’s a lower res version.I also got the white one… which was the only one ready to ship in time for my shoot, didn’t want this color either but it’s starting to grow on me.

Overheating makes this camera an absolute joke.
I received this camera today. I don’t shoot professionally, and I know cameras at this price bracket are probably overkill for what I use them for. That being said, this camera is an absolute joke.I immediately charged it, put in an SD card, and started taking some video. I took less than 25 minutes of video total. I shot maybe 15 of those minutes on 4k60, literally the only real selling point on this camera in my opinion. I then maybe shot 10 minutes of 4k24 in cinematic mode or whatever.The camera actually froze and lost a video in cinematic mode after recording 1 minute.It overheated in 4k60 in about 7 minutes. I shot hand held in an ambient temperature of 71 degrees. I know some reviewers got videos far longer without overheating, and maybe some of that had to do with using a tripod, but this is an absolute joke.I had originally planned on putting this in a cage, given the fact the camera itself has the ergonomics of a power brick, probably similar thermal regulation as well, and this might solve the issue. I don’t really want to risk that though, and this is a ridiculous issue at this price point.Aside from that, on a more subjective level, the colors really are not that good and the interface sucks.I will probably end up getting the S5IIX when it comes out and just deal with the 1.5 crop in 4k60. I really am taken back by how terrible my experience with this camera was.

Best camera for creators in 2023
I have had the Sony ZV-E1 glued to my hand since it arrived in the mail. I have shot BTS and some scenes for a commercial shoot that we did, I have hosted a photographers meetup and used this to take photos, I have shot thumbnails for YT videos, created vlogs, and recorded an hour long podcast episode with breaks every 20-30 mins. I was worried when I bought this camera that it was going to be some gimmicky vlog camera but after doing extensive research and watching pretty much every Sony cam video made I decided it was worth the risk. As someone who is a run and gun shooter this camera is amazing for a grab and go situation. Now that companies are also starting to create rigs that fit this camera I am working on getting a small rig cage and kit so that I can also build it out. Even without the cage though this is also the perfect camera to run off of a gimbal, behind the scenes, a primary or secondary camera, or pretty much whatever your creative needs are depending on the situation. The intelligent auto feature in this camera makes it feel like you have a virtual assistant and the fact that the menu is so customizable makes it a really enjoyable efficient camera when shooting in manual as well. I am very pleased with this camera.

Great camera in a small package.
This has been a great video camera for me. Everything has been fine except for one single hiccup. Doing a long interview (around 50 minutes) 4k 30fps in a room around 85 degrees Fahrenheit with no air movement is too much. It did overheat. The camera was new to me at the time, so I didn’t know how hard I could push it. I heard of the possible overheating from watching many YouTube videos, so, thankfully, I did have a cell phone recording at the same time, so I didn’t lose any of the interview. I turned it back on immediately and was blowing on the back of the camera for the last 10-15 minutes of the interview to keep it cooled off. Honestly, even the smallest breeze does seem to be enough to keep it cooled off. Other than that one time I’ve never had any issue. It is a fantastic camera, and everything I’ve done with it looks absolutely amazing.

Awesome low light range missing from my FX30. Dynamic stabilization is also very good.BUT…..1) had to send in for repair to 3.5mm jack because I couldn’t record sound.2) have issues with the on switch. Randomly, camera won’t power off at unless I remove the battery.

I own many Sony cameras. a6400, a6600, a74 , fx3. zve1 is the latest addition. I bought it for one specific purpose… Auto-Framing! And it works flawlessly. It’s like having an extra camera man. Only thing I was worried was overheating issue every one talked about. For long recordings over 1 hour , I attach ulanzi fan and it seem to work well. I know this camera wasn’t really meant for photos but 12mp is plenty for social media. Highly recommend it.

Delivery was smooth and fast. Quality is perfect. However nothing seemed to charge this camera, my USB-C doesn’t charge it. Very disappointed that I received a malfunctioned new camera. Need to return it.

This camera has a few significant drawbacks, not least :1. it overheats when recording 4k 60p for more than 10-20 or so minutes (depends on exact weather conditions). This can be fixed by strapping a fan to its back, but at the cost of extra bulk/weight and taking on an extra point of failure.2. it has a single card slot (i.e. it’s not suitable for most pro work).3. it will quickly overheat if you plug an external monitor into itBUT1. it is a beast in lowlight conditions (the 2nd native ISO base is 12800)2. it has that amazing sensor from the FX3 (used to shoot countless documentaries and at least one blockbuster film)
