The newest chapters in the Pokémon series, the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games, are coming to the Nintendo Switch system later this year. Catch, battle, and train Pokémon in the Paldea Region, a vast land filled with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, small towns, and sprawling cities. There is no set path, so you can adventure freely through three grand stories. In one such story, you can challenge Pokémon Gyms in any order you desire as you aim for the Champion Rank! Explore a wide-open world at your own pace and traverse land, water, and air by riding on the form-shifting Legendary Pokémon Koraidon. Choose either Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly, to be your first partner Pokémon before setting off on your journey through Paldea.
Encounter Pokémon that shine and glimmer thanks to the Terastal Phenomenon
Pokémon in the Paldea region have the ability to Terastallize to gain special power. When a Pokémon Terastallizes, a Tera Jewel appears above its head like a crown, and the Pokémon’s body glistens like a cut gemstone. Each Pokémon has a Tera Type that remains inactive until the Pokémon Terastallizes. For example, most Eevee will have a Normal Tera Type, but some other Eevee have a Flying Tera Type! When a Terastallized Pokémon uses a move that matches its Tera Type and at least one of its original types, the boost to that move’s power will be even greater! Terastallizing holds the key to victory or defeat in battles in the Paldea region.
Meet new people, new Pokémon, and a new you at the prestigious Naranja Academy
The Paldea Region is home to a prestigious school where people from all sorts of regions come to hone their skills against each other, be it through academics or Pokémon battles. The name of the school, its emblem, its uniforms, and other details will differ depending on whether you play Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet. Take classes with unique teachers who will show you what they know about battling, Pokémon biology, and more. Embark on an independent study called the Treasure Hunt to gain new experiences, meet new people, and find your very own treasure.

A special Pikachu will be gifted to early purchasers of either the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game. This Pikachu has two unique characteristics:
1. It knows the move Fly, which it normally cannot learn.

Overall review:Do you or a loved one like pokemon? Then get the game. Not sure what you were expecting :/The Good:Probably the best pokemon game to come out in the past decade. Definitely one of those games where you can just have fun. Best story coming from the Pokémon company, characters actually feel like they have personality, and the designs are what they should be (cute, no thoughts, yep that’s a monster, and huh?). There’s a “co-op” mode that makes playing with friends a lot more fun than just trading/battling or raid dens.The Bad:Frame drops are still prevalent in the lake, top of the snowy mountain, and desert town. While game crashes have significantly decreased since launch they are still annoying and the auto save feature isn’t at short enough intervals to not need a manual save after any exciting catch. Moving objects (the windmill is the most obvious) have terrible frames, there could be proximity frame timing in said structures to make the game feel more polished.Mixed? Thoughts:(Sarcastic sarcasm moment – The co-op. You and a friend want to do overworld doubles battles against NPCs and wild pokemon! No… you can’t. Want to complete the Pokédex! Unless you have friends and their switch friend code you can’t 🙂 )The co-op has great potential, but is limited to your switch friends list and is lacking features that make it true co-op. Not sure how much is a limitation of the switch and how much is gamefreak design, especially with a pokemon you can only evolve in the coop mode, feels like a gimmick that needs to cook a bit longer.

I’ve enjoyed the game so far, even being a 90s Pokémon fan
I was very hesitant to buy this game after hearing about the crash reports and the new silly terrestrial style Pokémon. But after playing the game I haven’t had my game crash once, and if you don’t like the terrestrial aspect (which I still don’t) then you really don’t need to worry about it in the game or waste time doing it unless you are in a battle and want to ensure you have extra power to win. It really doesn’t ruin the game one bit. The game has amazing game play and great Pokémon! I wish the starters were better but it’s not that big of a deal, the fire pokemon has cool evolutions. Get the game it’s fun!
