Everyone be cool! X360 owners, you have every reason to be happy.
THIS IS A COMPARE/CONTRAST REVIEW, SO HEADS UP!There’s a reason I’ve stuck with 2K the last couple years, and in my opinion, here’s the best of the two in each major category:Visuals: The ShowEven though I think MLB 2K11 has done a great job of tightening some of the choppy animations in their series, The Show has had a fairly flawless visual component for years on end now. The one area where 2K11 beats The Show here is in presentation style. The closeup shots are better and the camera angles are great, which really helps when adjusting settings for batting/pitching. 2K caters much more to the user here.Audio Presentation: MLB 2KThere’s no question here whatsoever. Gary Thorne/Steve Phillips/John Kruk have reflective, thoughtful commentary for nearly every established individual player, and the sounds of the park closely resemble the sounds you might hear in the various stadiums. Hell, the musical selection even beats The Show every year, even if you can change the music.Game play (analog control responsiveness a big factor here): MLB 2KThe controls are mighty smooth in 2K now, after years of refinement. The new fielding controls will force you to think and react more sharply. The hitting/pitching is as fluid as ever. The one thing I always liked about this series is how you can actually read the ball and still see it a split second before it hits the catcher’s glove. The ball in The Show looks flat and disappears into the mitt. Hitting is also very erratic in The Show, often feeling like you have little control over where you take the pitch. Regardless, this is not an issue in 2K! If you want to inside-out a pitch, you can, and you’ll feel every bit of control in doing so.Online play (Stability and what not): MLB 2KI’ve checked around, and it looks like once again, 2K is winning in server stability and ease of getting into and successfully completing games. If you just bought The Show for PS3, you probably haven’t even been able to connect to PSN all day (3/9/11), thanks to their maintenance.Modes (My Player, RRTS, Franchise, etc): MLB 2KMy Player is a really fun experience for us 2K players. It’s got every bit of functionality as the popular Road to the Show Mode, but 2K took a great thing and has made it better, two years in a row. The games feel quick; you can spend an entire night in My Player and feel like you’ve made some serious progress. The Franchise Mode is deep as usual in 2K, and the MLB Today that now continually updates the stats/abilities of players around the league during the season seems very promising. This is one grey area where we’ll hope that 2K holds up their end of the bargain. The short? 2K has in no way peaked, but look out, because save for stronger visuals, this game plays and feels as smooth as any baseball game you may have played before. It paces well, and it’s got enough to keep you busy till at least next year. Do we really want to see EA get MLB back!? I think we often forget how mundane their MVP series had become before they handed over the license to 2K. For you all-around sports fans, the only fair option would be a trade off in 2012. If EA gets their MLB back, 2K should get the NFL! Bottom line when it comes to deciding to get yourself 2K for XBOX 360, or any of the current generation system for that matter, do it. If it’s graphics you want, get The Show. Otherwise, MLB 2K is now a stronger game in nearly every category.

    Great old game
Got the game when I was little and lost it so I decided to get this game again. Brings back childhood memories.

    Glitches Galore!
Alright, this game is perfect for baseball lovers like me. However 2K Sports having an monopoly on creating baseball games for the Xbox has to stop! the quality of the game has went from good to just plain awful. The game freezes when you dont let the menus load enough. The most infamous glitch I had with this briliant game was when you play the actual game (if it lets you) and you pitch the ball causing the batter to hit the ball to the 1st baseman, in a live game the pitcher would run to 1st base and get the ball thrown to you from the 1st baseman. However, When the game’s first baseman throws the ball back to you trying to get the batter out, you magically teleport back to the pitchers mound enabling the batter to get a single! Also, another infamous glitch is when the outfielder robs ya of a homerun at the wall, you get out but you also score the run! WTF?! Overall this game is alright with the updated rosters, but EA sports has to get back into the baseball business.

    Addicting
The game is great! I love the graphics and game play. My Player mode is highly addicting so be careful. This game is very fun. There are some glitches however. The commentators will repeat the same thing twice in a row and at the end of games the players are bouncy. If patches come out to fix these issues the game would be much better! I would recommend this to any baseball fan!

A honest opinion from a devoted fan!
Let me start off by saying that I buy only one video game a year on release day and that is my yearly MLB 2K game. I prefer to wait and read reviews. However, I can’t wait to unwrap 2K’s baseball bad boy and see whats changed. I’m sorry to say that this year’s edition is lacking!First, the graphics are at times awesome. Stadium detail and environmental factors are wonderful. Spring training looks crisp with large rolling clouds and Florida palms. However, player development, appearances, and signatures come off on the lazy side. Batting stances and pitching deliveries look very similar if not identical to last year. As a devoted fan, I’m offended by this! I want more accurate appearances, tweaks, and signatures. I do not want a “new” $60 roster update. Secondly, The camera angles and fluidity of motion in gameplay is patchy. Sometimes it comes off flawless. However, the next time the camera will sometimes jerk and give unnatural pauses. Its almost like the visuals can’t catch up to the gameplay. I have since installed this game to my hard drive and it runs a lot better. This may not be an option for you depending on your drive size. I’d give this a poor overall score of 2 out of 5.The gameplay is solid. I have found the controls that 2K uses feel more natural and balanced compared to games like The Show. I felt last year’s game had issues with analog movement and pitch recognition. This year’s game seems to recognize this much better. I’ve found that holding the analog stick in place after delivering your pitch motion seems to help. I also like that the pitching is more accurate with ball to strike ratio. However, the umpires literally give you no corner strikes. The A.I. on the game will seriously test your patience. You can be up 0-2 on a hitter only to watch him pass on 4 straight pitches on the black. If you have a quick temper, you might want to take a few breathers. The A.I. batters will literally single your pitcher to death sometimes. The fielding controls seem to be fluid but highly sensitive. Its very easy to make simple mistakes by not adjusting your position or timing and release. You also have very little time to nail speedy baserunners. The batting remains mostly unchanged from last year and sufficient. Overall, I would rate the gameplay at a 3.5/5.The intangibles of the game leave me pretty disappointed. My favorite gameplay is franchise mode and little has been done to improve this feature. Forget accurate waiver, F/A signings, or customization. I don’t know who comes up with player contract information, but I have found several errors. For instance, Brian McCann starts a franchise in a walk year. In reality, McCann signed a six year contract in 2007 with a team option for a seventh. It would really awesome if somehow option contracts could make there way into the game. However, I would settle on 2k just getting the basics down first! Secondly, I’ve had several games where I’ve hit a homerun only to have the computer scale the wall for a catch. This is fine, but it ends up counting as a homerun and an out. Finally, one of the biggest complaints I have is in instant replay. This might just sound picky but the home plate umpire disappears. At first, I thought this was a glitch. However, every instant replay outside of swing analysis lacks the presence of a home plate umpire. Where does he go? 1.5/5.I’ll continue to play MLB 2K11 and hope for some patches to fix the flaws. However, I don’t think they can’t patch out all of the “lazy” efforts in the game. My numbers average out to 2.3, but I’m rounding up on the hope that 2K improves the game in the next few weeks. In conclusion, I truely believe if The Show was marketed to Xbox, 2K sports would up their efforts!
