A worthy successor to the MX518
Update as of June 3, 2018: This mouse is still working great after 3 years and I recommend it to anyone that wants a nice mouse that doesn’t break the bank.Been using this mouse now for a week as a replacement for my beloved MX518. I never would’ve thought I could replace the 518 and have a mouse I was as happy with, but, I can report that the G402 from Logitech is just as good (for me.)This mouse has a similar shape to the 518. The front profile is very similar and the height seems to be the same. The finger cutout on the right (when holding the mouse as you were using it) is slightly less pronounced and I find my pinky does seem to lightly brush the mousepad, definitely moreso than on the 518. The thumb side is very similar to the 518 however the entire mouse is covered in a rubbery grippy surface rather than the shiny silver plastic of the 518. The 402 DOES have cable support at the mouse end to help prevent yanks or tugs from ripping the wires loose inside the mouse, however there is no such support on the USB end.The 402 does have a slightly different button layout. The DPI up/down buttons are to the left of the left click (MB1) button. The side back/forward buttons are in the same place as the 518 but feel slightly softer to press. Also, on the bottom of the thumb area Logitech added a new button they call DPI shift. This is actually a pretty cool feature. Once you install the Logi G software it will allow you to set a seperate DPI that is only in effect when you hold that button. It temporarily jumps to a slower or faster sensitivity then goes back to your default as soon as you release the button. This works AMAZING in CAD/CAM packages where you need to pick tiny points or lines in a mess of other entities. The main buttons are fairly clicky, a little softer/less snappy than my 518 but no issues for me. The wheel is veryyyy nice and comfy. It is shaped like and M but the middle is rounded so it cradles your finger like a little pillow. The detents are firm and it is not possible for the wheel to slip or anything of the sort. This is my new go to mouse. I originally intended on retiring my 518 to my work computer, due to the fact that I program CNC Machines all day long, however after using the 402 I am simply storing the 518 and buying another.Great, great, great mouse.

Definitely better than the G502 (for me)
I used the G502 for more than a year and a half and loved it until the sensor decided to take a vacation and do whatever it wanted. It came to the point where I had to change my DPI and in-game sensitivity almost every round and I couldn’t find out what was the issue for the life of me. I just knew it didn’t feel right and it came to the point where I got mad and slammed it on the desk too hard and made it unusable lol. That got me to the next one G402. Honest to god I would have bought the 502 again but I saw this for a lot cheaper and decided to go for it and BEST DECISION EVER.Now to the actual review which is going to be more of a comparison with the mouse i know and loved the most, the 502.First of all, size wise its slightly and by the tiniest of margins, bigger than the 502. That was awesome because most of the buttons are positioned more away from the default position of my hands so I haven’t had mis-clicks at all (I have small hands and use a claw/palm hybrid grip) . That was a huge problem with the 502 as I would mis-click a lot and change my sens in between rounds or ping something I didn’t want to and it was sort of a pain in the butt so had to unbind all of the extra features and the dpi switching With this, even the sniper button where your thumb goes, I can’t mis-click if i tried to. You need definite movement of your fingers to press everything and I love that. I honestly bought the 502 for the infinite scroll wheel and the side scroller but the amount of times i have mis clicked that and its changed weapons just because the infinite scroll was on was not worth it as the only time I actually wanted to use it was for reading long documents. Similar with the profile switcher which I had to disable because of the same reason.Weight wise its slightly lighter than its older(newer) brethren but that’s awesome for me as I love a light mouse that I can move quickly, and i never had the extra weights installed on the 502.The clicks on the 502 for the main left right buttons are crisper than the 402 but really not a factor at all but the side buttons are crisper on the 402 which is great as it prevent misclicking which was the only issue I had with the 502.Quality wise, like all logitech products, it delivers (unlike razer mice, sorry fan boys haha I still use the blackwidow though which is excellent) with quality materials and a nice rubberized coating for a solid grip. The scroll wheel is some form of polymer unlike the 502 which is metal but I find it to be way more solid and crisper than the metal one so love it. Not really a factor at all.Another huge plus, (again for me not too many people like this) but the 502 had a braided cable that would get caught on everything, my monitor, the edge of my table etc. giving resistance while moving the mouse and ended up tearing it after use but this (402) has a standard cable and the problem doesn’t exist at all.Overall I would recommend this mouse to anyone into gaming and because it was on sale I actually bought a second one for backup immediately after using it. Excellent mouse and great job logitech. Please don’t stop production of it cuz I will buy this over any of the newer mice any day .

I’ve had this mouse for two months now and so far it works incredibly well. I use it on games like CS:GO, Fortnite, and R6. My aim felt like it improved the moment I used it in game because it glides really well and the censor is amazing. All buttons are fully programmable, which provides what most basic mice don’t. Unfortunately you can’t change the colour of the G logo, but you can adjust brightness and such to your liking. The mouse is really light and the mouse feet at the bottom provide for smoother movement. The only downside in my opinion is the side buttons are small and hard to press for larger hands, which can cause some discomfort. Overall, this mouse is incredible for gamers looking for a high quality, low price gaming mouse to meet all their gaming needs. You won’t regret buying this mouse!
