Great console
My only problem is I wish I had more games to play on it. Console does exactly what it needs to.

Great replacement for your old retro consoles
Plays SNES, NES and Genesis games perfectly. There is a switch on the back to toggle between full stretched screen and 1:1, highly recommend leaving it on the 1:1 setting.The included controllers have a very squishy d-pad that I found to be not great, but still works for the most part.

Disappointed with what could have been an amazing retro console!
TL;DR : Hyperkin products are an apparent crapshoot based on other people’s negative reviews and my own experience. Might work, might not. Bad customer service also. Look at people’s negative reviews of other Hyperkin Retron systems and you will find similar issues to the ones below!!This is a long one. Buckle up.I REALLY wanted to like this console. It has everything I was looking for in a retro clone console, except the price (it is a little bit steep at 84.99, imo). There are some very good Pros to this console, also some very prominent (possibly deal-breaking) Cons. However, none of that matters because it stopped working in 10 days.As you will see below, my potential review has changed.I was so stoked when I got the Retron 3 HD. I had just introduced my young son to Super Mario Bros and we spent about a week playing the console and it was (temporarily) flawless! 10 days after I bought it, the sound went out on the console. It still had normal video function. Strange, because it is HDMI out and both audio and video are through that port. I changed hdmi ports on my Samsung tv, I changed cables, and I even changed TVs, but to no avail. No sound still. Broken and defeated, I resigned to having to contact Hyperkin for a warranty replacement. My son was equally crushed, if not more so.I contacted Hyperkin via phone on the morning of 4/20/20, knowing that they were only open MWF due to the pandemic. They said to send proof of purchase and to send an email to support@hyperkin.com. I figured that getting a Return Authorization via email would be a simple and quick task so that I could get a replacement. I thought that they would respond quickly to my email, as I sent them everything they needed quickly. I also assumed that they would want their customers to have functioning consoles in this time of quarantine. They did not respond that day, despite having the whole business day to do so. Okay, no problem. Maybe they are busy, I thought. They will get to me the next business day, right?On that Wednesday, I sent a followup email. No response. Ok, still not upset. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. I waited until the weekend to make a decision on what to do. Come Monday of the next week, no response still. Ok, time to take matters into my own hands. I decided to send the item back to Amazon and letting that be the end of my relationship with Hyperkin. Which is where we are now. I also found out that even if Hyperkin would have responded to me, I would have had to ship the console back to them at my expense. For a manufacturing defect. Doesn’t make much sense.I didn’t even get so much as an automated email saying they were busy, backed up, or anything at all.. Very disappointing, considering I paid $85 plus tax. Before the sound failure after 10 days, the console seemed good.In the interest of fairness, not including the sound failure, here are some Pros and Cons are listed below:PROS:The look of the console itself is very “Retro-Future”, if you will. A matter of taste, but I liked it.This is a Pro and Con: They provide 1 SNES and 1 Genesis controller . The Pro of this is that the controllers are of high quality and have long 10′ cables.The HDMI visual quality is pretty good! The internal upscaler is nice.It ran my SNES and Genesis games well with no compatibility issues. I did not test NES. Also, the SNES pin slot does not have the death grip. It is pretty close to a real SNES.CONS:The price. $84.99 + tax is steep, but obviously not steep enough for me, as I actually bought the thing (so can this actually be considered a con?) .The controller situation. They provide one SNES and one Genesis controller. It sucks that you cannot do localmultiplayer unless you buy more controllers, as you can only use SNES on SNES, etc.. Also, they don’t provide a NES controller, which means you can’t even play NES out of the box.The Genesis slot HAS A DEATH GRIP on the carts! Also, you have to put it in at a strange angle.The Customer Service is not good. As you can read above, I am sad that they never even responded to me. As of 4/29/20, no response. Another thing, they told me they had never heard of this problem before, which simply is not true. Other customers’ negative reviews have the same no sound issues on other Retron consoles.The bottom line is that I am a believer in the legends: Hyperkin products are of low quality that may work (for a while) or will not work at all out of the box. It’s the luck of the draw, . A 1 year warranty doesn’t mean anything if they don’t respond to you. Hyperkin has permanently lost me as a customer. My money has now gone to Gamerz Tek with their 16bit HD and Minigen HD units. Hopefully I will have better luck with them.
