Does a great job for what it is.
Like others, I found a mountain of photos after my mother died. Many old family pictures that I couldn’t just discard but took up a lot of room. I bought this to scan and save those photos to a smaller package. Works well for the purpose. For color photos this unit is great. It’s fast, easy to use, portable. Software has very basic controls for adjusting image quality. One big caveat, it does NOT work on old, glossy, black and white photos. Hard to explain the effect but the image itself is only black and white with no grayscale so everything is washed out. Having to use an old, slow, flatbed scanner for these.Overall I’m happy with my purchase. Pretty good value for what it offers.

Epson ES-50 Portable Scanner
I have scanned almost 2000 photos so far and have at least that to go.All things considered, I could not ask for a better scanner. It was inexpensive, portable, plenty fast and just works. Note: outside of scanning the text on the back of pictures and stitching it to the front, I have not done any text scanning. The stitching option is wonderful. The only 3 issues that I have (I tried to explain my work arounds) and I consider them minor are :1. You sometimes have to reorient dark photos or use a light background slightly larger than the photo or the scanner will crop out the dark parts. This is understandable since the rollers are black.2. Very thin high gloss photos have to have constant pressure in and out (manual by pushing and pulling the photo) or the rollers will slip on the picture. Thicker, high gloss photos don’t do this.3. The app needs some work as it appears to be outdated. Won’t do some of the features on larger files as it will crash and close. Work around save the file as is and do what you need to do thru a Microsoft or whatever photo editing app. This only happens on really large pictures.I did not have any problems with gray scale or color scanning at the max 1200BPI (once I figured out the app).

Mac Compatible, doesn’t appear to scan straight
I purchased this because I desperately needed a new printer to print something, and the only one available was a wireless printers/scanner that *only* lets you scan through their app if you have an account – really sending up red flags for me if one were scanning sensitive documents! So I splurged and got this as well. Is it small and portable? Yes. Did it work easily with my macbook pro? Also yes.My main problem is nothing scans it straight. It’s great if you’re wanted to make sure you have copies of mail or receipts (I suggest tapping to an 8.5×11 regular sheet of paper), but if you want an aligned document without a small black line on the top left edge of the paper? Not your device. Yes you can crop, but it never quite looks right.Anyway. It’s a decent little device and does what I need for record keeping! Just not perfect with the alignment. One other note: I scanned a document I had printed that I needed to sign, and wanted a copy of said signature on this document. The whole thing is just…not the greatest quality? Looks kind of dated. Can’t really explain it. Really picked up the ink details which I guess is good, but visually looked low quality.Buy if: You want something easy that gives you a bunch of options to upload to computer, onedrive, email, etc. Also great for record keeping that doesn’t really need perfection at the end of the day. Also allows for cropping and adjustments in the software.Don’t buy if: You desire straight, 8.5×11 documents. She doesn’t play that way!

Scanner to computer
Perfect for scanning items to your computer without the hassle of a huge printer/scanner. Smaller to tuck away when done with it, and easy to use.

Won’t work on my Dell computer with Windows 11
I had an older ES-50 that suddenly stopped working with the Epson software. I bought a new Workforce ES-50 thinking that some sort of update had made the old model obsolete. When I installed the new one it did a scanner test and the same problem was there. I tried downloading and installing the drivers again to no avail. The software would open the scan screen on my monitor and the Workforce ES-50 would run the original through the device, but nothing would show up on the screen, just the software screen, blank and with no document. I called the Epson disservice line and, after an extended stay on hold, got advice from their customer “support” agent. The advice I was given didn’t work. I called a second time, waited and waited on hold, and was given the same advice. The agent couldn’t or wouldn’t listen when I told them that what they said was identical to what I’d been told before, and that it did not work. They hung up after insisting that they were correct in their recommendation. I made one more futile attempt to re-install the device drivers and software, to no avail. This is junk – do yourself a favor and don’t waste money on it.

Pretty impressive scanner
I received this scanner a few days ago so I cannot speak to its long-term performance or durability, but so far it works GREAT. The software was a little difficult to install & setup. The software is abit clunky to use. But the software & scanner are more reliable than my MUCH more expensive desktop scanner. And I can use this scanner in my lap as I scan! It scans color documents. It does not do 2-sided scanning directly, but if you scan side 1, then turn the document over & insert the reverse side into the scanner & click “+scan” it will scan the reverse side. When saved to a computer the results are the same as those from a 2-sided scanner. The same button can be used to add multiple pages to a scan. All in all a pretty impressive scanner.

I loved this product when it arrived, but only used it a few times and it just stopped working, despite trying new connections, multiple computers. Instructions say to attach USB directly to computer – my MAC OS laptop doesn’t have a USB port. Big disappointment. Makes me hesitant to order a replacement.

This little scanner is awesome… easy to see up, very small footprint and highly portable. Scanned many docs when it arrived and it was fast and smooth. And I also did a bunch of photos – the quality of the scan was really good.Note that it does not do old, black-and-white photos!Very happy with the product
