Simple, effective, and just what I wanted and needed.
I’m a metalhead. I’ve been searching and searching for reviews of anyone with that type of musical leaning for these type of speakers in this price range. Am I an audiophile? In many ways. However, I write and record my own music that I release on Spotify and Bandcamp and need a set of speakers of a caliber that the everyday person is going to own and use regularly for reference. All of my life I’ve been that average working class person who usually can only afford things within this price range and sometimes you don’t need a $500 – $800 setup to find quality that satisfies your everyday needs.Anyways, to the point: These speakers rule. Are they perfect? No. However, as picky as I can be I’ve been listening to them all day and they do wonders for a medium sized bedroom where I just want to review what I’ve recorded (not in my DAW, I’m not using these as studio monitors and neither should you because they are not). After my own stuff I went and listened to all of my other favorite bands, which sound great. I’ve avoided turning them all the way up because they are loud! I’m pretty sure I’ve been keeping them under halfway on the volume and that is more than enough for me to begin worrying about my neighbors.Treble: Nice, bright, clear, and not coming off like an aluminum can. I did turn the treble knob up just the tiniest bit to help break through some of the bass and lower mids, which is a lot more present than I was expecting. I think the wood casing really helps with that resonance as opposed to some of the plastic on lower quality speakers.Mids: Pretty damn solid. Nothing that bugged me and nothing to rant over. The mids added definition to the overall sound.Bass: A bit too powerful for my needs, so I actually turned it down a tiny bit and then it was perfect. It was a super easy fix. I listen to a lot of death metal and there is some incredibly low tunings on guitar, bass, as well as the kick pedal of the drums. The bass immediately let me know it was there, hence turning it down a wee bit. But now we’re great!I don’t see why you couldn’t listen to electronic or hip hop on here without complaint. I put on some Dead Prez and Kendrick Lamar and turned the bass up, it rumbled a lot. But I know others may want more so just keep that in mind.Beyond metal I played a bit of my favorite flamenco artists, classical music, country, and folk. All sounded great and extremely clear. I’d highly recommend this to someone for the $100 it is. What a delightful setup I found in that price range.

Great value- perform exactly as expected
These are a good value, really nice sound for the 90$ I spent on the pair. I bought them for a home recording setup, but one needs to be realistic about what one gets at this price point (I was, which is why I am happy with them!). Full disclosure: for “serious” recording and monitoring, I use my SONY MDR7506 headphones and/or a pair of aged 5″ JBL LSR2325Ps; I plan on using these Edifiers to make sure my mixes sound good on really decent “normal” speakers- and so far these do that job quite well. For 90$, these are actually much better than I expected (hence the 5 stars) and I am 100% happy with the purchase. Of course there’s a relative (and unavoidable) loss of power and clarity at this size / price point (e.g. deep analog bass muddies, and many high frequencies drop out completely). I only mention all this because the listing describes these as “studio monitors” but I’m not sure that’s a fair expectation to set. Maybe in a smaller space / starter home studio? Otherwise these make a great testing ground for mixes, and of course they are perfect for everyday use (gaming etc). I’d also add that they are beautiful- the wood finish is lovely and anyone who has walked past my workstation has commented on them.

    Great Price and Sound
I needed a better sound for my record player. These speakers with their built in sound controls and price were exactly what we needed. They look great and took zero time to setup. You cannot go wrong with purchasing these speakers. We are very happy with them.

Really wonderful speakers. Feels like XMAS
I originally bought some Alesis M1 speakers because I had a set of their higher end monitors and was very pleased with them. I was looking for nearfield monitors that were less on the thud side and more on the midrange side of town, since I’m using them for production. I wrote a review about the Alesis. Alesis are a great company, but those speakers were absolutely dreadful. I spent $91 on those used. Unlistenable.I was resigned to having to shell out the bigger bucks to get some NS10’s.. which of course do the job better than anything, but are hard to listen to for long periods of time. I wanted something that was accurate, small and musical. So I started listening to tests on youtube through my Sony MDRV6 headphones (5hz-35khz!) of every monitor I could find that might fit the bill for what I was looking for.I had not heard of Edifier, but my research started with discovering the 1280db’s, which sound great, really. But in another test I listened to 1280db against the 1280T that made me opt instead for the 1280T. The 1280T’s were more balanced to my ears. Then I listened to every single other test I could find of the 1280T’s against a paragon of great speaker manufacturers., JBL, Genius, Behringer, Alesis, Pioneer.. even a few Bose models, the bookshelf and multimedia speakers specifically (NEVER use Bose for monitoring).I did the test in HD with my eyes closed so that I could truly determine which sounded not just better, but that seemed to offer a response you’d expect from nearfield monitors rather than loudspeakers. I’m not looking for thudders – I’m looking for lots of detail and accuracy in the midrange. The 1280T’s kept taking the proverbial cake. They have a very musical characteristic about them without coloration. There is no wonk on these speakers. I think what these guys really got right was the balance. Even against higher Edifier models, this one really was more pleasing to my ears, again looking for detailed midrange response and to be used as near field monitors. They sound way more expensive than they are. (I owned a few $300-$600 monitors including Alesis and JBL). I paid $79. Unreal. I feel like a bandit. The balance as I say is really exquisite. Someone really gave a damn about how these things sound. I was already impressed with the 1280db, but these are more balanced in the 200hz-400hz range. The detail in the midrange is really superb. The bass response, going AB between these, some Rockit 5’s, car speakers and a Yamaha stereo system with a sub, is pretty accurate, leaning slightly on over emphasis. So I went back to the speaker, dialed the bass response down 1 click, and voila! Accurate (or as accurate as you could hope for $79) bass response. The treble response is accurate with no compensation required on the speaker. The treble balance is very musical. Well blended. These speakers sing like one unit, not like 2 woofers and 2 tweeters. I also gave the Treble and Bass a good push to 10 and the speakers just got sweeter and beefier. Really pleasant, although I plan to keep the speakers flat. I think the boost and cut is set at 6db each way.. but I’m guessing. Again I have no real need for those but it was nice to hear these things really kick. You can make them thud if you want. 75hz-18khz is where they’re rated and more than enough for my purposes. They look nice to me (they don’t look cheap anyway.). The construction appears to be quite solid. The grills are straightforward and aesthetically, while not the sexiest looking piece of gear, makes up for it with unassuming awesomeness. My friends had no idea the speakers sound that good from looking at them. They look a bit vintage even. I’m down with that.I’ve read some negative comments about the dials on the speakers. I didn’t mind them at all. The Bass and Treble have a nice click for the 12 o’clock setting so you don’t have to eyeball it and the Volume knob is infinite. Doesn’t stop rolling in either direction, which is fine. I set it and leave it there. I did give them a good crank (listenably loud) and they handled it no problem. No audible distortion or clipping. For near field monitors, these things have a TON of power. WAAAY louder than I’d ever need them to be. The company rates them at 42W (21 a side). These speakers have no bluetooth connectivity, which I could care less about since I would never use that feature when working on music production. You’ve got an Aux input and a “PC” input and that’s IT. Both are RCA. A USB connection or a SPDF connection might be nice, but if they omitted those to keep the price down while focusing on giving you a great sounding speaker, then I’m all for it because they succeeded in that regard. One of the best purchases I’ve made this year. Will definitely look Edify up first next time I want to buy some speakers. I hope they maintain their emphasis on simplicity and quality. Unreal value for $79.. AWESOME!!

The Edifier R1280T speakers have been a fantastic addition to my setup. These bookshelf speakers deliver rich, clear sound with impressive depth for their price range. The 4-inch bass driver and 13mm silk dome tweeter provide a well-balanced audio experience that works perfectly for both music and movies. The sound is detailed without being overwhelming, offering a warm, natural tone that fills the room. One of the standout features is the adjustable tone control on the side panel, allowing me to fine-tune the bass and treble to my preference. The remote control is also a convenient feature, making it easy to adjust volume or switch input sources without getting up.The build quality is solid, with a classic wood finish that looks stylish and professional in any setting. The speakers are compact enough to fit on my desk but still produce excellent sound quality for a variety of content. For the price, the Edifier R1280T speakers are an excellent value, offering clear, balanced sound and flexibility in a beautiful design. They’re ideal for anyone looking for high-quality desktop speakers without breaking the bank. Highly recommended!

Positive:Setup was quick and simple. The included instructions were easy to follow. Package includes all cables and wires you may need.Sound quality is excellent and the bass/treble controls are very responsive. The bass and treble controls have a notch at centre so you can feel where 0 is without looking. Volume control is notched on every turn. Controls are well marked and easy to understandThe speakers have a sleek, modern design that are compact and fit nicely into plenty of aesthetics with their wooden side panels. The front fabric covers pop off easily if the bare speaker look is more to your taste. The remote control is handy and works well. Haven’t tried it at a great distance as the room is average sized but I’d imagine range isn’t an issue.Neutral/negative:I wish the on/off switch was located with the other controls on the side, as opposed to on the back. In my setup, I have space to reach in behind to turn them off (as I do when not in use) but others may notThe remote only controls volume/mutes the speakers. It might be nice to include the bass and treble controls as well. The other thing worth mentioning about the remote is that the battery compartment is tricky to open. It can be done quickly with practice, but the first few times you’ll probably fumble with it.Overall impression:These speakers are well made, and sound fantastic. The issues I mentioned above are minor and don’t take away from my overall rating.I would recommend these speakers to anyone looking for a high quality option on a budget.

Absolutely fantastic speakers!!! Like other reviewers wrote, I can’t believe the audio quality through these small and inexpensive beauties, I’m in audio heaven! Also delivery was faster than expected and via a good courier. I’d only like to mention the speakers I received are clearly US/Canada and my bf had to rush to the shop to get a plug converter as they have a USA plug, but it was a very minor inconvenience 🙂 online warranty registration went smoothly too

Exterior: great sleek wooden finish. Smart position of the volume control (on the side).Sound: no scratchy sound when you turn the volume/sound control, great amplificationWorth the buy if you are looking for small but powerful bookshelf speakers for your turntable! (Changed into this after dealing with degrading quality of PreSonus)
