Decent PS4 controller – EXCELLENT PS3 CONTROLLER!!!!
So, let’s start with how this is advertised. It is meant to be a PS4 controller. I no longer have a PS4, but I do have a PS5 and connected this to the PS5 to play some PS4 games through backwards compatibility.It seems to function well as a PS4 controller. The buttons feel like they have a little less travel, the images on the buttons are a little strange, and the D-pad feels a bit mushy, but overall this is very serviceable. As of writing this review, the controller is about $25 with a coupon bringing it down to $20. That is pretty great value, especially for a controller that may be your second control. On the whole, it functions just about as well as a first party controller, but even for the PS4 alone, it has one feature that makes it (for me at least) even better than the original controller – USB-C. If you haven’t been using your PS4 for a while, you may have forgotten that those used Micro-USB. I know it isn’t that big a deal for most, but not having to dig out a micro usb for a controller is pretty great.Now, all of the above make this a solid purchase, but if you happen to have PS3, this goes from being an okay purchase to an AMAZING purchase. Using the a usb-c cable, you connect this to the PS3 when it is on and then you unplug the cable and the darn thing just works like a PS3 controller – and I mean – fully – works. Even a good PS4 third party controller for me is oh so much better than the first party original Dualshock 3 controllers (which used mini-usb). Those of you who have searched for good PS3 controllers know how hard they are to find, and they almost always come with major compromises. This one will allow you to turn the system off. It will wake the PS3 with the home button just like the original controller. It even works on Sixaxis titles. Sixaxis was the only aspect that was just a little wonky for me. It worked, but it seemed like I had to engage the left stick while I was tilting. The tilting still did the work, but the stick had to be moved a bit.While it is a fine PS4 controller and one I’d recommend to be used with a PS4 mainly because it is a good price and has USB-C, my primary reason to recommend this is because it is my new favorite way to play the PS3. I even have the Retro Fighters Defender PS3 controller (which is also pretty great), but I think I like the feel of this one better – AND that one cost more than twice as much as this one – AND that one is less functional as a PS4 controller.

This PS4 controller was so close, so so very close. I honestly debated for a bit on 3 star or 4 star and to be honest I wish I could give it a 5 star; and with fairness it could very well just have been bad luck on my part. Let me explain:Pros – this control is nearly an exact match to the original Sony products. Only noticeable difference is the right side buttons have different symbols, makes me think that this is due to a copyright issue which I cannot fault at all. The controlled synched right up to both the PS4 and to the computer without any trouble and worked immediately. The controller is built with a USB C connection instead of the original USB mini connection, which is a HUGE bonus. The OE controllers with the USB mini tend to become loose right away and is a big negative to the OE controllers in my opinion. It also fits the hands and feels just like original product and works “ALMOST” perfectly. Unfortunately that brings me to the:Cons – the included USB cable is a bit small, needs to be a couple feet longer to allow for ease of use when connecting to a computer for play. This brings me to the deal breaker for me, and as I said, it may have just been bad luck. The thumb controllers have a sensitivity issue. When connected to the PS4 the right thumb toggle was over sensitive which made it unusable. When connected to the computer the left thumb toggle was under sensitive and could not move quick enough for effective game play.In short, if you don’t mind taking a chance and possibly making a return then you may not have this problem and it is a 5 Star perfect controller. If taking that chance isn’t for you, then this would be a 1 Star controller that may not be your best choice.

Paired easily and works great. Charge lasts a couple of days with light play time.
