Excellent starter drone
I initially bought a cheaper sort of off-brand drone. I returned it almost immediately and bought the DJI mini 3 (fly more combo). This is a great little drone. Small enough to not require FAA registration. Capable of flying great distances due to frankly amazing battery life and respectable transmission range. It has a theoretical maximum range of 10 km but I’ve only had it out to 6-7 km and that was from a significantly elevated point. This drone is very easy to fly but it has the performance and subtlety of control that allows for some fairly acrobatic flying, though nothing like an fpv drone – the tilt angle is always going to be limited. Good camera quality and some “quick shots” features that allow one to take semi-automated video shots in different patterns. The DJI mini 3 does not have any obstacle avoidance feature which does come on the DJI mini 3 pro, for a little more. I have lost RC signal a number of times and each time it has obediently flown back on its own until signal returned and I could take control again. With the 3 batteries, each lasting easily over 30 minutes without cutting it close (30% or so still on the battery) and a recharge time of just over an hour per battery, you can fly this thing almost continuously. A really great drone for the money.

You will not go wrong with this purchase. It takes amazing video and pictures. It’s just a joy to fly and trust me it’s worth every penny! The only thing I added was a tablet holder instead of the phone holder. Just like the larger viewing area. One other thing; purchase the DJI Care Refresh Plan from their website. It’s absolutely worth it because you will crash at some point.

Get the B4Ufly app on Google and the Apple store. It will warn you if the President is in town and UAS (government for “drone”) and drone flying is illegal via TFR. This isn’t a political comment; this is for every presidential visit, and approx: 35 miles from where s/he will be.Also, get the proper memory card. I had some laying around that were not the speed needed, and the drone refused to use them. I suppose that’s a good thing.I got this for a Birth-Mas (my birthday is around Christmas, so I get a large present for both), and I originally got the Costco package, but this one is much better for the same price, as it includes the better controller for the same price at the expense of the $8 memory (64GB) card.If I were looking for a DJI Mini 3, I would get this package in a heartbeat. Great drone. I am so glad I bought the fly more kit-the flight time is good but it’s so nice to swap between batteries and keep flying. Always have one ready to go!The controller with built in screen is also really great.Shipping was good, one of the updates was “delayed at customs” but it showed more info on the carriers tracking than what Amazon showed, and it was only at customs for a few hours.

I have wanted to splurge on a true photographic drone, after spending money on “fun” toy style drones, with sub par cameras. I told myself if it went on sale I was buying it. For less than $800 tax in, I got the fly more combo during prime days (would have splurged on the pro but it didn’t go on sale) and am so happy I did.Out of the box, the drone is easy to fly, and register. I spent $125 or so on DJI care, as I was taking the drone to PEI and flying over water and was concerned about crashing in the water or losing it.I took many flights and a lot of video, exploring different aspects of the island. Everything recorded to the onboard micro SD card, and I transferred those to my phone via the DJI fly app, for viewing and editing.The drone is very easy to fly, and I was able to get several flights under my belt, without hitting anything or crashing. Video is smooth, battery lasts as long as they claim but having 2 spares ready to go is so handy.I immediately purchased a PEKREW drone backpack to carry the drone and accessories, making it even more portable, however everything would still fit nicely in the included carry bag.As I complete more projects and get familiar with editing, I may upgrade to one of the PRO models, but for now, this is easy to learn on, easy to understand and VERY fun to fly!
