Fantastic gaming console
I was not sure what to expect with this. There are many game emulation devices on the market, most of which are cheaply made and not worth it. When I got this console and opened up the box, I was impressed with the thought and care Anbernic put in packaging the unit. When I picked it up. I was impressed with the weight of the unit. It had a nice weight to it. The feel of the plastic shell is great quality, It’s not cheap plastic that feels like it’s going to break or crack. The buttons and controls on this unit are great quality and work great. The OS on this unit is easy to navigate, use and learn. The quality this unit players emulated games is excellent. This company has a website and regularly updates the firmware of this device and other devices they sell. There was an update that came out since my unit shipped. The instructions for updating the firmware is easy to understand. I have been in the tech field for many years and I had no problem understanding the process or updating the firmware. For a person who is not very tech savvy this process can be challenging. You cannot download and update the firmware within the unit. You need to download the firmware and use software to install the new firmware onto the micro SD card. This unit has 2 SD cards slots so you can save your game rom files on a second card to keep the files separate from the SD card that includes the software. If you’re looking for a nice hand held emulation gaming console this is a great unit. I have wanted review videos online for this device and its very well received with many great review.s

Smooth emulation, with detailed fine-tuning with RetroArch. Analog sticks in the way.
I got this handheld game system to play my childhood favorites in idle moments. It worked well for many systems (including 3D ones). Main interface to games is easy to use but has limited options. Settings lets you run RetroArch directly which allows extensive fine-tuning of all aspects of emulation. Sleep button works well and doesn’t drain battery much while asleep. I like the physical design, except for the analog sticks being somewhat in the way when using digital controls. Wi-Fi was nice to copy games over without having to remove memory card. Battery life seemed good, several hours. This is a decent system and value for someone with some experience with retro gaming and emulators.I compared this to RetroArch on my smartphone with a clamp-on controller, and there are clear benefits: games ran smoother (nothing running in the background), sound is in stereo, buttons are already configured, and systems can be built optimized for it (there are apparently various community firmware builds for this).Main interface is decent for selecting systems and games, but has limited customization. Can only shuffle A, B, X, Y, and it’s applied to all systems. Only a few graphics rescaling options, and none with bilinear so many systems’ pixels have uneven sizes and vary as they scroll. Sound latency was noticeable. It makes more sense to just run the included RetroArch directly, which gives per-system and per-game controller remapping (fully), and has better graphics scaling options.HDMI worked fine, running at 720p. Audio ran through it, though for RetroArch I had to change Settings->Output->Audio->Device to hdmi (and back when not using HDMI). For Wi-Fi file access I found ssh_enable.sh online to turn ssh on, and I used sshfs on Linux to mount the memory card for easy browsing and copying to it from my main PC.

I’m an avid collector and LOVE this machine
I have over 100 gaming devices in my collection, and I’d easily put the 40XX-H in the top ten overall for playability. There are so many features to love about it, from the small things (like the snazzy RGB-lit thumb sticks) to the processing hardware which makes it capable of emulating most every retro system you can throw at it.Another great feature is the form factor. It’s just about the perfect size for portability. You don’t need a gigantic case to carry it around, yet you also don’t feel cramped at the controls while trying to play a game. The screen ratio is ideal for most every retro gaming purpose, and the screen itself looks incredibly vivid. There’s just not much the 40XX-H does wrong. If I did have any complaints, it’s that the operating system is not the best I’ve seen. Granted, it does function well enough to do the basics. Unfortunately, I feel it’s not the most customizable or user-friendly GUI on the market today. It works okay, and that’s about as generous as I can be on that subject.Don’t let the lackluster OS discourage you, however. There are few retro gaming devices that can match the 40XX-H in terms of getting decent bang for your buck. I’m so glad to have this one in my own personal collection.

Did you like the PS Vita, but wanted to play games from other systems on it? Get this!
Another solid handheld from Anbernic. When I say “solid” I mean just that. It’s built like a tank. You get that “quality” feeling whenever you’re holding an Anbernic and this is no exception! This give HUGE PS Vita vibes, not only in looks, but hand field as well.Unlike a PS Vita, it will pay anything from Atari up to N64, Sega Saturn and Dreamcast….oh and it plays PS1 games upscaled (if you turn it on) so they look better than they did on a Vita. You just can’t go wrong with any of Anbernic’s H700 chipset devices. Yeah, they’re priced at a premium, but you’re getting what you pay for!One bit of advice to get the best experience would be to download the latest firmware version for your model of device and flash it to a fast, brand name SD card and you’ll be set!

One of the better ones
This is one of the better Retro hand-held gaming consoles that I have picked up. It has some weight to it and seems to be solidly built. Every game that I played back in the day is in there (I did not play that many games). I like that the ZL and ZR buttons are stacked vs side by side. Also, the screen is a good size and the spinning rainbow lights (that can be changed or turned off) add some serious style points. A great purchase for anyone that likes video games.
