Nice Piece of Tech .. but some cons.
I purchased a G16 with the I9, 4070, 1TBSSD, 16GB Ram from Best Buy and have had it for a few months. Thought I would drop a review here to help others.Pros: This is probably the nicest laptop I have ever had. It is solid, slim feels very well made. No rattles or flimsy plastic parts. The keyboard is a dream to type on and the OLED screen is absolutely gorgeous. Its super fast, boots up in seconds, and can probably run just about any game or program you throw at it on high or very high settings. If you are looking for the high end device feel and performance this is it. I tried a MSI Stealth and it was bulky, screen wasn’t as good and was nowhere as nice as this. Comes with very little bloatware, which is a huge plus.Cons: There are some.1st it gets hot as a frying pan when under load or gaming, regardless if the game has high requirements or not. The area above the keyboard gets so hot you can barely touch it. I contacted ASUS and they said this is normal and that because it has an all metal chassis that’s just how its going to be. Makes sense but with this heat I worry about longevity of this device and damage to the screen. My last MSI “gaming laptop” died from heat and I expect this one to as well in 3-5 yrs..hopefully not sooner. Finally the Armory Crate utility is not intuitive and as and older guy I am not really sure what its for other than to adjust the RGB colors and tweak the laptop slightly. There is also a MyAsus program as well for updates etc.. both of these seem redundant and would be nice if they could be combined but it is what it is. I don’t care about RGB colors that much and just want this PC to work. Armory crate does seem to over ride some basic windows stuff like sleep and power settings and I cant for the life of me figure out how to fix it.Overall: This think is pretty frikin awesome and though its pricey you are getting a quality piece of tech. I’m pretty sure everything offered in a similar format with its competitors are less expensive but not as well built at this puppy.
