My First Action Camera: An Awesome Surprise!
I had been holding off with purchasing an action camera until now, largely for two reasons: the picture quality / specs were comparable to those of my phone camera, and they were very expensive, even considering the idea of being water proof. Thanks to the alternative I found with this brand, I’ve discovered a great camera that really exceeds the specs of the GoPros that I’ve read. And, it lists just at the top end of what I am comfortable paying. To clarify, 20 MP is a dramatic improvement in detail over my 13 MP phone, or our 16 MP Kodak. The 4K video is likewise a vast improvement over our other cameras. It is worth noting that we do not own high end cameras in general, as they are well outside of our budget, so the depth available to us provides challenges when conditions aren’t perfect. So the differences in image quality are absolutely visible under the same conditions.Notably, the video quality settings I have tested so far are 4K and 1080P (which I believe is “HD”). There are a few other settings for quality, and the balance is really a trade-off between frame rate and image quality. At 4K, the frame rate maximum is 24fps. At 1080P the maximum is 60fps. The greater frame-rate can be useful in the case of converting existing regular speed footage to a slower playback rate. Also notable, I haven’t discovered a setting that is explicitly described as “slow motion”, so this effect may be exclusively relegated to the editor’s station. As this is my first action camera, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. It surprised me how very light weight and small the camera body really is. I was very apprehensive about testing its waterproof casing, but I did, and it definitely is.Additionally, I really appreciate the ability to use my phone as a remote viewfinder, and remote trigger.Okay, that’s the gushing praise for the product. The things that I encountered that seemed to be less “gush-worthy” are a few:First (and I accept this as typical of the form), there isn’t a “macro” setting. This means that this camera is really intended to capture a wide field of view in good detail. It doesn’t really have the ability to capture those intimately close-up images that a macro lens / setting would assist. The depth of field is broad, and it captures images sharply both near and relatively distant, but a macro setting would improve the performance up close.Additionally, the aspect of the images are square. I haven’t yet found a setting with which the aspect can be adjusted, and with modern monitors / televisions emphasizing ratios like 16:9 (not square in any case), the result is a video / photo with broad black stripes on either side when viewed on such a monitor. Moreover, the manual is fairly explicit in contrast with the other manuals for similar cameras I purchased very shortly after this one. But, the thing it really lacks are in-depth descriptions of the specs of the camera. Items like focal point measurements can be useful. It is also pretty common for the “time-lapse” setting to have its greatest interval be limited to 5 seconds. I would actually love to see longer intervals become available, up to as much as 24 hours. The idea being that it would be useful to monitor things like plant development at consistent times of day / lighting conditions. The size and versatility of this camera’s form would lend itself quite readily to such applications. So the summary is this:Pros-Good quality imagery for the priceSmall and lightweightWaterproof (with the included casing)InexpensiveManual is more explicit than other brands for similar productCons (or not-so-pro)Square aspect videoMissing camera specs in manualShort interval limitation for time-lapse setting.Overall, I’m very pleased with this camera.

Great for beginners and in water recording
As an aquatics director for a swim school I wanted to have some unique and high quality photos and videos for content and advertising purposes. The Brave 4 functions perfectly for a beginner like myself and came with so many useful attachments to get every angle we could in the limited space we have on our deck. I was a little intimidated when I first saw all of the pieces, but it was actually very easy to set up! Even easier to use.The camera is small, so when I got in the water during lessons it wasn’t very distracting to our students or teachers. I was able to get some AMAZING underwater footage of kids diving for rings, doing their streamline glide, and our instructors giving on the spot corrections in the water. You can’t see everything that’s going on in a stroke from above the water so this has been a great tool to help find areas where our swimmers are struggling and provide corrections. I will say the underwater quality of the videos, surprisingly, were much clearer than the above water videos.I’ve used the camera mostly in the water and on our deck, and it clearly captured the speed of some of our fastest swimmers without losing quality. Above the water was a bit pixelated but not terribly. The audio is useable, however, if you’re doing content with this camera you most likely will want to do voice overs, or have a separate device for recording audio. You can hear everything, but if there’s much background noise like at my swim school, the audio can be a bit muffled. I would definitely use this for hiking and open water swims for some fun videos!I also found that you can attach it to WiFi and use it as a sort of office camera with a live feed. Super cool feature I wasn’t even aware of when I was purchasing.I was not able to use the camera without a memory card so definitely order that at the same time or you’ll be waiting on the memory card like I was. I thought there may be some internal storage but there isn’t that I had found. Rookie mistake on my part lolI haven’t tested the battery to its fullest extent yet, but it lasted a full 6 hr shift with no breaks. Some of my teenage instructors can’t even do that, so I was very pleased with the battery life.Overall, definitely worth the buy. Once I master this one I will definitely be upgrading to the newer model.

A Great Value for the Price
This is a full-feature highly versatile camera with a ton of accessories for different uses. I ride motorcycles and a downhill mountain bike and the camera records ultra-smooth footage in a range of resolutions — I love that you can shoot in 2.7k (2704×1520) which saves space but still gives you super sharp, stable footage — and the super slow 240 fps looks awesome. The camera and accessories are well made and durable. An all-around great camera if you want to record broadcast quality footage in extreme conditions.

Definitely shockproof
Received the camera yesterday and used the clip to mount/ clip it to the cup holder on the motorcycle. Ran over a pothole and the camera clip detached at about 45mph. The contraption disintegrated on the pavement and the sd card ejected and is lost. clip 1 and clip2 were in pieces. Albeit the camera survived with only minor scratches and is still working flawlessly. Picture quality is good. Setup was easy. Definitely recommend this action camera.

The video quality is exceptional over all the resolutions; however the picture quality is not up to the mark and consists of a lot of grains . Would rate this cam 8/10

I wanted a little waterproof video camera to record video and take photos on my motorbike. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, but wanted semi-decent video and images. So far this little beauty has exceeded my expectations. I’m a bit of a geek by nature and film a lot of videos (underwater), so I have a fair idea of what is good and what is not…I’ve had the camera for a few days now and my initial impressions are:- Quality seems excellent. I really only need to shoot in 1080p (4K is really too large for most purposes) and having 60fps is desirable, the right boxes are ticked already.- Video stabilization is essential on the motorbike, and this little camera does an excellent job with the footage.- The remote control is very useful and functional. I’ve attached it to the handle-bars, so I can easily stop and start recording video…PLUS, if you are recording video, you can hit the photo button on the remote and it takes a 20MP photo without interrupting the video. This is so useful for taking quick pictures of lovely scenes and still get the video you want- The camera has loads of different functions, so easy to change resolution, go to Underwater Mode, take burst shots, loop your video and take time-lapse (see example video)- It comes with a large range of including mounting options and accessories. I’ve easily attached it to my motorbike, securely, without having to purchase anything additional- It comes with two batteries and a charger that charges both batteries at the same timeI honestly can’t believe how good value this is, highly recommended,
