Great game to play with adults or kids
I just picked this game up last week and have been able to put in a couple hours into the story and some multiplayer matches.Story mode:I expected the story to be a lot of repetitive tennis matches but I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of objectives and play. It is well-designed to lead you into learning the different skill sets without making it feel forced. It is also (in my opinion) the perfect level of difficulty! I end up failing a good portion of the stages at least once before getting skillful enough to overcome it! Even though it is frustrating at times I welcome the challenge as it keeps me interested.Multiplayer: I have so far only played multiplayer matches with my fiance who is not really a gamer but she enjoys the casual gameplay from this and many other Nintendo Switch offerings. It is accessible and light fun to play! I will definitely be interested in playing this game with kids who visit our house, as well as adults who are up for a competitive challenge.Controls: They are pretty good! I had expected the controls to be more motion-driven than they are, but there are some mini games you can play that actually let you swing the remote. The downside to those games is they essentially take the movement out of the equation and let you focus on swinging – its not very competitive but I guess it makes it more accessible to a wider skill range.Overall: If you like the Mario Tennis on N64, or like Mario games in general, I don’t think you’d be disappointed by this game and i’d recommend picking it up.

Best tennis game out there right now.
This game is surprisingly great. I’m a big fan of tennis games, and was a little skeptical of a Mario game because I thought it may be really dumbed down from a realistic tennis experience. I have to say that this is one of the best tennis games I’ve played on any platform. It does have some unrealistic aspects, like the slowing of time, special trick shots, etc… but you can also play the “simple” rules which disables all of that and makes it just a standard game of tennis. The only downside that I have found is that the online play can be a little slow to find matches. I’m not sure if that is a problem with the game, or if there just isn’t a hugely active online community playing this. Most times I can find a match within a couple minutes, but there have been a few times I’ve just given up because it took so long to find an opponent.

Worth every penny. Only for North America.
Great gameplay. Single player adventure mode is great for skill development. However what keeps me playing the game is online gameplay with our friends and family in other cities. Great way of staying in touch. The controls are not overly simplistic like Pong, nor are they overly complex like Madden or NBA 2k. It is realistic enough to actual tennis with timing, spins, etc. it may sound a little far-fetched but it actually helped my girlfriend and me work on tennis strategy for real tennis (e.g., how to run set plays in doubles, where to target the serve and when to poach). It’s the best tennis title I have played since virtua tennis on Dreamcast, with topspin on Xbox being a close 2nd.I bought several digital game codes for myself and friends. My friend in norway was unable to use the code to download the game in Europe. Some of the other reviews say it can be used outside the USA, but I suspect it’s only in Canada and Mexico, not in other regions. That is why I’m giving it 4 stars, even though the description says it can only be used in USA.

Think twice before buying the game.
Unless you are a collector of Mario games, tennis fan, Mario fan, and etc. think again before buying the game, especially people who are looking for great single player experience. I mean the single player campaign is great and all but, you will get most out of this game when you play with your other three friends (since its 4 player max) or if you have Nintendo switch online. Otherwise I gave 5 star for the “game”

  5. Robert

Game was excellent, but it’s not for anyone under 18.
With how infuriating this game was, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have a handle on their patience or anger. The story mode is RIDICULOUSLY hard and took me quite a while to complete while taking breaks. But man if you beat it, you will SMASH anyone that you play against who hasn’t also beaten the story mode. Tried playing against my co-workers at work and I was too good to the point it was boring.

    Its for family!
This is absolutely a great game for family fun. Even we dont have friends coming this year, we are still enjoy the joy that this tennis game bring to the family. Recommend to anybody what wants to relax and have fun with the family members.

    Fun Multiplayer
I have loved the mario sports games since mario tennis n64. The single player campaign is a good way to get a grip on the controls, and it’s always fun to jump into multiplayer. The monthly tournaments are also a good way to keep working on your skills if you have no one to play with nearby

    It’s okay
Thought this game was going to be more like wii tennis and use the movement of the controllers to hit the ball. Seems interesting so far. I have just played single player mode.
