Perfect for the casual hardcore (Update)
2 months update:Still works great. Controllers still work and feel great. Still love this system, I haven’t found a game that doesn’t work. But I found some issues, mostly with the NES color pallette and I won’t lie some games just look ugly (but not all them?) Not so much the case with SNES games.I still stand by my 5 star review though, I’ve invested over 200 hours on this playing games like Final Fantasy 6 and Secret of Mana. Also it’s super easy to take with you to a friend’s house, which I’ve done a few times now. But I’ll admit I’m starting to want a analogue system since I am investing so much time into these old games. I do not regret this purchase in the least it was a great starting system to get back into these old games and in don’t feel rushed to invest the $200 for the analogue since this works so well.Original Review:So I like to consider myself a “casual hardcore” retro gamer. I like to enjoy the games I actually collect. I really wanted to get back into NES and SNES games, but I havent owned a Nintendo or Super Nintendo since 1997. When I saw this system there was no reviews or even YouTube videos, I knew nothing about it. But I do own the Hyperkin MegaRetroN and so I took a leap of faith, which I don’t normally do.I purchased the Retron 2 owning zero games for either system and after ordering the hyperkin, I ran to my local retro store and picked up 15 total games and also a SNES multicart and a some reproductions games on ebay.I’ve had these games about a week with these games now.So how is it?This system is almost perfect. The game cartidges pull out easily in both slots, so no death grip like the MegaretroN, which is good since SNES games usually need a eject button. Both the controllers are excellent with long cords, I personally forget that they aren’t orginial controllers. Though I would recommend a 8bitdo and a Bluetooth receiver eventually, but these controllers are excellent until then and they won’t piss off Player 2 when you do get a 8bitdo.As for input lag? I have played Street fighter 2, Mortal Kombat and Mike Tyson Punch out and I never felt I lost due to delay button presses (but you can blame lag if you want :P) If your TV has a “game mode” like mine does i recommend turning it onSound and video is where the critics knock this system around. Hyperkin systems has a little extra color saturation that may turn off people, but I enjoy the richer color myself. The 4:3/16:9 switch is a good option and the game looks amazing on a HDTV at 720p.Other than what the coins sound like in Super Mario Brothers on the NES (which sound… interesting on the hyperkin), I couldn’t tell you which sounds or music sound different or sounds the same, sorry but it’s been too long since I played these games. They sound good over all thoughand after playing Super Mario All Star for the Super Nintendo I can safely say the SNES sound and music is spot on.I would recommend Madlittlepixel YouTube review to hear the sound difference and see the difference in color saturation. But something to keep in mind with these “small issues” the retron 2 has and that the hyperkin 2 is two systems for $70. That’s $35 for each system, compared to $200 for one system for the analogue FPGA system.. But for $70 you are getting alot! If you are a die hard purist, well I’m sure you already have a RGB mod or Analogue. But if you’re like me and you found your old box of games in the attic or just want to casually collect games and don’t want to break the bank for a system that is easy to install, sounds and looks good on a HDTV and will bring you back to 1994? Then you cannot lose with this system.Highly recommended.

    Great game station.
Works great, now we are playing the same video games that we played with our kids with our grandkids.

Turned out to be better than I expected after owning it for a few years
About 4 years ago I was getting back into retro video gaming. The last time I had played any NES/SNES games, I was still using CRT TVs. It was now 2019 and all of my TVs were HD. I did some searching and started buying up HDMI clone systems. Within a few months I had a few clones made by Hyperkin and Old Skool. By 2020, I had purchased expensive clone systems made by Analogue and RetroUSB. At that point I had packed up my cheaper clones and put them away in a closet. Over the last year and a half I started bringing some of my games over to a friends house. I had no desire haul my expensive systems around so I started unpacking my cheaper clones and taking them over to the homes of family and friends. Over the last few years I have build up a collection of Everdrives that I have been using with my Analogue and RetroUSB clones. I recently discovered that my Hyperkin RetroN 2 HD works with some Everdrive models. Since then, I have been bringing my RetroN 2 HD with me whenever I decide to do some gaming at my friend’s house. After 4 years I’ve basically “re-discovered” the RetroN 2 HD and began to appreciate it for what it is. Is it perfect? No. Is it compatible with every game? No. Are the sounds accurate? To my ears it sounds ok. Are the colors accurate? No. Is it over saturated? Absolutely. I’ve always felt Old Skool consoles were a bit better at colors than Hyperkin, but none of my Old Skool clones will work with my Everdrives. If you’re looking for an inexpensive clone to haul around like I’ve been doing, you can’t go wrong with the RetroN 2 HD. Keep in mind it only works with older Everdrive models. I’ve been using it for the last 2 months with an Everdrive N8 (not Pro) and a SuperEverdrive X5. The N8 Pro would not work and I can’t remember if The FX Pak Pro worked on it.

    Play SNES in HD
For what they are and the price these are great and play both NES and SNES in HD natively.Point being if you want to play some old Nintendo carts this is a good way to do it.The controllers are better than expected and the unit is a good value overall.Final thing this is an emulator it is not a Nintendo product and is not a 1/1 game console.

    3 Months of Fun
Worked great for 3 months. Then games started giving error messages. The games that still played slowed down making the music and action slower. I brought it again, and it worked for 3 more months and then started getting glitchy and then stopped connecting to the TV altogether. Again – it was fun, but it should be built better so it will last longer than 3 mos.

    Great idea!
Retro feel and great for game play from your early childhood (or if you have a retro fix).Easy to set up.Your only limitations would be obtaining retro game cartridges.

Robusto, jugabilidad idéntica a la consola original,, conversión a HD de sonido y gráficos muy buena,,.

  8. Godisbusy

Great Image quality for HDMI TV, and I would say better than on original cathodic TV. Also sound is great too. For the price I really find this product doing a good job. I have tested many games and all are working perfectly. From PAL to NTSC version , europe, US, japan. The joysticks are good to , the nes joystick is even better than the original nes joystick. Very happy with my purchase so far

I can finally play my Japanese games without my snes converter. Those things are so fiddly to workI brought this to play rockman2. Cuz even with the converter, I’d get through one stage and the game would pop up with a message saying that I couldn’t continue because I didn’t have a Japanese system. It was so annoyingSo I brought this.Popped it in. Problem solvedBut it also plays nes games at the correct speed. Now the music doesn’t sound slow anymore. An amazing little thing. I use it all the time. Rather than my snes and nes.The only problem is it doesn’t save Kirby’s fun pak. I have no idea why. So best keep that one for an official system
