  1. concerned aunt and mom 🌺

    Good quality and price.
I replaced my entire downstairs floor with this product, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The result is neat and elegant. Highly recommended for its quality and price!

  2. Millrat

    Works great if installed correctly.
My old GFIC was humming and getting warm to the touch. It was an easy install. Remove the old GFIC, test the wires and confirm which is the load and which is the line, attach as listed. Energize and reset. It’s working perfectly, not humming, not warm to the touch. Glad I made the upgrade to this new outlet.

Great for a peace of mind
If you came to this page to purchase this product, you know what AFCI is and what it does.It is great for the peace of mind, seeing as arc fires are the most common type of electrical fire.It is also a great way to meet the code if you are extending an existing circuit or running a new one, and they don’t manufacture AFCI breakers for your panel. This receptacle is a great alternative to the more expensive AFCI breaker, and it is THE ONLY alternative if your panel is old and they don’t make AFCI breakers for it.My situation is somewhat specific: They DO make AFCI breakers for my panel (GE), but GE’s AFCI’s are notorious for nuisance tripping when you’re using X10 remote switches in combination with high loads (space heaters) or motor loads (vacuums). Having gotten tired of the nuisance tripping, I decided to go with a regular breaker and AFCI receptacle. With this receptacle, I haven’t seen any nuisance trips yet.Be careful though: Unless you can tie tripping to something very specific (such as running a vacuum), be very wary when your AFCI trips. If it happens repeatedly and without an obvious reason, call an electrician right away, because most likely AFCI is doing its job and is detecting an arc somewhere. This is NOT a “combination” AFCI. Combination devices work with series and parallel arcs. Non-combination ones, such as this receptacle, work with parallel arcs only. Not a big deal though. From what I read, parallel arcs are the much, much greater danger accounting for the much greater portion of fires, so I am fine with not having a combination device. And even if you’re not a believer in AFCI, you are still supposed to have any electrical work you’ve done permitted and inspected, otherwise you’re running a risk of having your insurance claim denied.Yes, there are some AFCI doubters out there, even though to me it is as silly as questioning gravity. So, what are the code requirements?Per year 2011 and 2014 NEC 210.12, if you’re adding a new circuit in most of the living areas or extending an existing one, you’re supposed to protect it with an AFCI; Either with a combination AFCI breaker or a non-combination AFCI receptacle installed as the first receptacle on the circuit. When extending an existing circuit, you just have to replace the first receptacle on the circuit with an AFCI one. When running a new circuit, you can do the same thing, only the “home run”, the run from the breaker to the first receptacle, has to be an armored cable (MC or AC/BX), and the first box has to be made of metal (which is a given anyway if you’re using metal-jacketed cable).2014 code relaxed the requirement to say that if you’re extending an existing circuit by less than 6 feet, you don’t need to add AFCI.So now, for the product itself:Yes, it is bulky. I’ve been spoiled by the smaller new GFCI’s that don’t take up as much room in the junction box. This one is as big as the old-school GFCI’s. I had to plan the wires carefully. Here’s how I’ve done for the wiring:This was a new circuit, so I had to run an MC cable from the service panel to the first box.I pigtailed the ground wires; I had a 6″ piece of ground wire screwed to the grounding terminal of the box. To that wire I’ve attached the ground wire from the supply cable, the ground for the load cable for the circuits downstream, and another 6″ piece of ground wire to attach to the ground terminal of the receptacle. I twisted all four wires together, put a wirenut over it and stuffed it all the way to the back of the box with a handle of opened up slip joint pliers.Next, I’ve attached the hot (black) and the neutral (white) wires of the supply (line) cable to the Line terminals of the receptacle. The black goes under the yellow (gold-colored) screw, the white — under chrome.I’ve attached the white and the black for the load (downstream receptacles) to the Load terminals.I ran a few windings of tape around the receptacle to cover the exposed screws.I bent the black and the white wires around the back of the receptacle so that they are folding as I’m pushing the receptacle into the box.I screwed everything down, turned the breaker on, and it worked. There is a trick with the test buttons: the Reset one is not strictly mechanical but rather electromechanical; You have to hold it in for a couple of seconds for it to re-engage.So, here’s the quick summary of what I’m thinking so far:Great if your panel is old and you want to be in compliance with the code, or simply want to sleep well at night.Yes, it is bulky, so you will have to finagle the wires, especially if you have an existing box and you have to fit this thing in it.

    Perfect
I installed this on the line in a 2-gang box in the bathroom and used a USB outlet as the load off of it. The little nightlights are great and it works perfectly. Very happy.

replaced a single switch with this, works well for a bathroom
The bathroom in this house had a single switch on the wall that started giving me problems. I had to switch on/off multiple times to get it going. The light would flicker once before deciding to stay off. I decided to replace the switch and I also wanted to have a GFCI outlet. This one seemed to fit the need.At first, I worried about the reviews that said that the instructions were incorrect. I ordered the product anyway as I decided to contact the manufacturer if there is any problem. As it turned out, I didn’t have any issues with the instructions that came with the product. The product was purchased in Jan 2020. I am not an electrician but know computer hardware quite a bit. The instructions seemed to make sense to me and followed it exactly. Everything works well. The diagrams seemed to match the manufacturer’s website information. Most electrical boxes in the bathrooms have two cables coming in – each with three wires (1) hot, usually black colored insulation, (2) neutral, usually white colored insulation, and (3) a ground, no insulation. One of these cables comes from the main breaker box and supplies power. The other goes out to a light or a fan or something and that is the one you want to control with the switch. It is called ‘load’, but there are three kinds of load when you consider this product.(1) switch-controlled and GFCI-protected load – power goes from the ‘load’ to one side of the switch. The other side of the switch goes to the ‘load’ (light or a fan…) This is the one described by the instructions 7A.(2) GFCI-protected outlet that is part of this product – this is not controlled by the switch in the manufacturer-provided instructions. It is GFCI-protected. (Technically, it is possible to use this product in a way where the switch controls whether this outlet supplies power or not, but that is a totally different kind of usage and different kind of wiring, and that kind of usage or wiring is not mentioned in the instructions).(3) GFCI-protected, optional additional outlets – but if you want another cable from this box going to another pair of outlets or even out to a different location, you can do it. This is described by instructions 7B, but this is only a simple extension of 7A. My bathroom only has a small box and so I am not using this optional load. [The other bathroom in the house has a non-GFCI protected, switch+dual outlet combo. I plan to purchase one more of this product and I would replace the switch and connect the two outlets as the optional load. I would then have a switch and three outlets all of which would be GFCI-protected. ]. This would not be controlled by the switch either. Like I said above, it is possible to connect everything so that the switch controls all the outlets in one shot, but then that usage is not documented by the manufacturer. My bathroom actually had three cables coming in. One comes from the main breaker supplying power. Second goes to the ceiling light and the third to the ceiling fan. I would have expected an electrician to put a bigger box so that it would be possible for someone in the future to control the light and the fan with individual switches and also be able to install the outlet. But then whoever did it in the past chose to plug the light and the fan together with wire-nuts inside the small box and so practically it all boils down to having just two cables.

Easy to install. Really like night light feature with sensor.

Needed to replace our bathroom plug so needed it to be GFI as it’s near the sink. Well made, simple to install and great price point.

  11. Ange We

As described! Easy to DIY install.

  12. Chad Rogers

Install was relatively easy but definitely a tight fit. Works as described without any issues to date.Went with this given it has the added security of being dual function rather than GFCI alone. As an added precaution, i wrapped the outer casing with electric take to avoid accidental contact with the box.

Bought this to replace my other GFCI that tripped and could not be reset. I almost bought the cheapest Amazon Basics one, but for the very reasonable Amazon price, I purchased a Leviton, which is a very reliable name. I like the LED light on the bottom, my old one didn’t have one. Installed very easily and the fit was nice. Make sure you turn your power to the outlet off. My panel is badly labeled, so I just turned off the ENTIRE power to the panel, to make 100% sure it was off.
