This is an R36S (a $40-$45 device)! It’s solid, but it’s deceptive and over priced! MUST READ
TLDR: DO NOT BUY IF THIS IS PRICED ABOVE $50.00 USD. This is NOT an $80.00 handheld. This is a SOLID emulator for PS1 and lower and the AeUX OS included is great, but know this: This is just an R36S, which is a $40-$45 device. When I say it’s an R36S, I mean exactly that. The board inside is from an R36S, so the performance is IDENTICAL. See below for more details…There’s a device available on here that’s about 50% less expensive and it 100% the same device. In fact, it’s the original device that this device is trying to “clone”. This “R40S” has the same motherboard (it’s identical down to the chip, wire and screw) and it has the same screen (it actually is using a first gen R36S screen and newer R36S units are on revision 4 of the screen). Here’s the only difference. The bottom edge of the case is rounded and not squared off as it is on a “real” R36S.On top of that, these devices are coming shipped with “fake” Lexar 256GB Micro SD cards that are only 90GB is capacity, which is a weird number. I’ve done some deep checking on these cards, and they are infact, only 90GB in capacity and likely started their lives in a Lexar production facility as a 128 or 256GB card, but were “factory rejected” becuase not all of the memory was stable, so they’re sold off for “pennies”. The people who are buying them are still leaving them labled as 256GB when they know they’re not.How do they know? Well they had to load the ROMs on to it and I would image they would be puzzled as to why only 70GB is available for ROM storage after the OS take’s it’s chuck out of the available space.Fake SD card and False advertising aside, this is a well built device and as the same solid performance as a real R36S would.Up to this point, I’ve had several of these units in for review and I’ve been giving them all 1-star reviews because of the lies and deception. Which that being said, I’ve found myself continuning to play games on them afterwards because they’re just that solid and good. Just like my real R36S.If this device was being sold at R36S pricing and included a proper capacity SD card, I’d let this slide with a 4-star review and only knock off that one star because of the deceptive name.As it stands now in January of 2025, this device is pretending to be an upgrade to the very popular and properly priced R36S by calling it an R40S Pro. It’s shipping with fake 256GB SD cards AND they’re asking twice the price of a real R36S.Put a real SD card in it. Stop using deceptive naming for the product. Change the price to match it’s performance catagory and you’d have a 5-star device.The low rating is not brecause it’s bad, but because they’re trying to trick you into paying twice as much compared to the real thing.
