Not sponsored/paid. Love this thing.
Okay, so, I realize there’s an issue with people being given free product/posting reviews/whatever. I am NOT one of those people. I actually had a TP-Link branded minion(yes, that minion. It’s adorable lol) that I used to watch pets and house while I was away prior so I knew of the brand.Anyway, I got this little guy for like $15 after seeing it on Slickdeals (if you don’t have the app, you SHOULD. it will save you tons of money.)Okay, explanation aside, I love this thing. I actually have blink cameras in other areas and am highly considering replacing them with Tp-Link cameras because of ease of use. The app is so cool honestly, I was shocked. Literally everything is in the app. By everything I mean all the “smart home” options. You can control ALL of your (TP-Link)devices from this app, not just the cameras. With that said, people keep calling this “subscription free”, and in my opinion it is NOT. You do get a free trial of cloud storage, but you have to pay after that expires. Additionally, instead of paying per time period or storage amount or anything else, you pay per device. You can pay per month, or yearly. I chose yearly, one device, for around $29, which in my opinion is fair. If I picked monthly at 4.99, it would have been around $60 after a year- so double the price. As I said before, the amount goes up depending on how many devices you have. They also seem to offer occasional promotional-type sales, so I think I saved a few dollars because of that (prices were marked through.) With that said, you might be able to get those subscriptions for a much better price if you watch those sales. We have a buttnugget of a neighbor who likes to regularly hit/putt golf balls at the house and does other stupid stuff so I didn’t want to risk not having saved cloud storage, so instead of waiting on a better sale I just went ahead and bought the subscription.I don’t know how other people are getting away with saying there’s no subscription fee. I mean, after the subscription expires, the most I found it could do was provide a live feed. On the bright side, if there is a gap in coverage (like there was for me) all of your videos that you missed are obviously still kept somewhere, because re-subscribing results in all of that ‘activity’ to update and become immediately available. Take that how you will. I thought it was pretty neat.Okay, now for the technicalities. I was dumb and installed it upside down somehow. Filled with anguish due to the thought of having to climb the ladder that barely reaches the flood light again- i found a setting in the app. INVERT. This thing is dummy-proof, I swear. Whoever made this needs a raise. The 2k quality is, in fact, 2k. Another reason I purchased this was because my blink cameras have a max quality of like 1080p, and as far as I could tell, none of the blink cameras (even new ones) had anything more than that- but considering how blurry it was the last time the neighbor managed to break the house light while “golfing” at the house, I wanted something with a bit more clarity. The night vision is also really damn good. All of my blink cameras just kind of show a big white spot at night, but the Tapo has no issues. It also sorts videos for you- you can tell it to not store things like- pets, vehicles, etc.Obviously, Tp- Link probably pays people for some of the reviews. That’s why I’m leaving mine, so y’all will know what’s real and what’s not. I realize this is incredibly long, I’ll probably come back and shorten it later. I just wanted to throw my observations out there in case someone was eyeing this dude and needed some real answers.Oh! One more thing. During this most recent hurricane in Georgia, a tree fell on the house right where my little Tapo was. I couldn’t even check him until the tree was removed. His last recorded video was quite literally of the tree hitting the house. (Not to worry, we are okay.) Anyway, if you ever have a burgular or something knocks out your little Tapo, apparently it will somehow manage to upload that clip to the cloud before being unplugged/dying. I’m not sure if it has a small battery backup or what, but I was super impressed with that. Further, turns out, the tree only managed to ‘unplug’ the Tapo. I’m gonna start calling him lucky.Oh, and, unlike the blink, it doesn’t need a stupid sync module!

Great little camera, smaller than a hockey puck.
Camera is fantastic. Great features. You can separately set zones for motion, people, pets, and vehicles. You can also set a privacy zone -an area that the camera will not record. The App is great too. If you look on TP-Link’s website you can find an instruction manual for using the App. I downloaded it to my desktop. The only thing I wish is when you set the areas for the different zones there are only four dots in the corners that you can manipulate. It would be much easier to set those zones if there were four more points for a total of eight. That way you could create a better variety of shapes to fit the area where you need the zone. Only having four points limits you and it becomes a matter of a little give and take to set your zones. You get all the features without having a subscription. Just put in a micro SD card. I bought a Sandisk High Endurance 128GB for around $15. The camera will loop and overwrite the micro sd card once its full. Even without a subscription you can get a live view on your phone from anywhere and the recordings are local to your SD card. If you need to download a video, your phone just needs to be connected to the same wifi network the camera is connected to. The downloaded video will appear in your phone’s camera gallery. I highly recommend this camera. For the price, you can’t go wrong. I bought a couple of Ring cameras, set them up, played with the app a little bit. Honestly, I prefer the Tapo cameras. I returned the Ring cameras I bought. By the way, the video and snapshots that you can record are fantastic. Very clear and easy to see details including the night vision videos.

RTSP Support and excellent night quality
EDIT: Some extra opinions now that I’ve been using this for a longer period of time. In short, it’s been working awesome. I have it continuously recording and when at home I sometimes stream it for a few hours to check the outside of my home and everything works as it should. The video lag when I’m streaming is as low as 1-2 seconds and if you’re running a stream for a long time, it can go up to around 5 seconds lag. But re-starting the stream fixes it and the lag is honestly not bad.Video quality is great in the day and at night it’s surprisingly excellent. You can see a lot of detail with just a few street lights outside. And indoors, even in a completely pitch black room, you can clearly see everything.I ended up buying another camera since it’s been working so well. Using the app, it’s easy to set up recording times and other settings such as detection methods like general motion or when a person enters the frame. The one feature I really love is that you can set the zones for detection. Like if your video frame has a lot of movement on the top that you want to ignore, but the bottom of the frame has a walkway to your property, you can frame out what area you want the detection. It works great. Notifications are quick and accurate and the overall app UI is simple and easy to use.A note about the memory card. If you’re going to be using it to record continuously, and even if you’re not, get an endurance microSD which are made for the constant rewrites. I got a 256gb Samsung one and recording at 2K quality, it was around 18-19gb for one day. Usable memory is about 220gb so you can get roughly 12 days of footage you can always look back on.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I wanted a security camera with RTSP support and can confirm this works. I tested it out with VLC Player and it worked great. Minimal lag and picture quality is great, especially at night. I tried in a room with only light from a monitor and you could clearly see. App and options seems solid. I did have initial problems connecting to Wi-Fi and had to try two times but once it connected I had no issues. The camera itself is very light and the magnetic base works well. Solid and easy angle adjustments. The price is so cheap for the quality you get.

I have been looking for a security camera for pointing outside my house mainly for monitoring if anyone coming to the house (for delivery etc), any vehicle going to my drive way or park outside my house, and any pets (or racoon) wondering outside my house especially at night. The C120 is exactly what I am looking for.I’ve been using the tapo C120 for just one month and very happy with this product and the tech support. It got all the features I’ve looking for among different brands and models, picture quality is quite good day and night, live and recorded video very smooth, small foot print to be mounted on the window frame, flexible camera arm for pointing at the exact angle easily, very considerate magetic base plate and double side tape for simple installation without the need for drilling nor screwing. It has about 5 sec pre-recording when the motion is detected so you won’t miss anything right at the beginning of the moment the motion detected, multiple detect zone which so flexible that not confined to just rectangular shape like to older model, detection of person, vehicle and pets work just great, night vision is very clear without the need of infra red or spot light (especially useful when I put the camera behind the window pointing outside the house), quite happy with the motion detection response which is very fast (both day and night time).More important, technical support is very good, I found the recorded video is jerky a couple of times at the beginning of the video, contacted tech support with sample video sent to them, unexpectedly, they responsed the next day and even got a firmware update for me within a week and the problem seems resolved now, of course I will monitor the issue for the next couple of weeks to make sure it is really fixed (which I think it is), also tech support (Ian Xu) responses very fast with good follow up which is another star added.

Love these little cameras I have bought a few of these, so easy to set up and great functionality. I put a micro sd card into it, so no subscription charge. I have used them to keep a watch on my elderly mother who lives alone. And they have made things a lot easy for us. Great camera and great functionality.
